I'm Italian, in 1984 I was 18 years old, and I was a DJ on a radio station, Style Council were all the rage, and right from their debut I immediately liked them, and thanks to them I discovered Curtis Mayfield (one of the greatest singer-songwriters of always) which Paul Weller said he was inspired in some way.

Btw, I'd just like to apologise for my comment back then, regarding people leaving school with only 'CSE grade1 in Woodwork'... it was naive and arrogant of me to assume such things, and some of my old school buddies who left school with absolutely no qualifications went on to be highly-skilled craftsmen and billionaires (my friend went to Dubai with a team of construction lads in 1996, and now has his company listed on the stock exchange). My real point was that kids were being written off if they didn't get the requisite O/A levels to get to college/uni, and were forced on to 'Youth Training Schemes' at £17.50 a week.

Love the old plays that are a record of post and attitudes of the times , ... an history lesson , that reflects Britain at the time , ...Brian Glover always great in these type of TV dramas,....one of my favourites of his is ' The Fishing Party ' a gem full of humour and working class drama ,...so many great tv/ dramas were produced in the 1960s and 70s....wonderful memories

I'm an older American and had never heard of Paul Weller, The Jam, etc., until about 3 years ago on Twitter! I have purchased every album I can get my hands on, created a KZfaq list of hundreds of videos (singles, concerts, etc.) and am still adding to it! As a former vocalist, music director and "wild" music fan, I am very glad to have had the experiences of Weller's music over the last few years! The young Paul Weller looked very much like my first husband, who died in an accident in our 5th year of a wonderful marriage. 💔 It has been interesting to see Paul Weller as he got older & still seeing his resemblance to my first husband but, more importantly, I have learned to love Weller's music & listen every day! 🎶💜

You might find this interesting, a youth Culture called the Mods in England listened to The Jam. They took their style from Italy wearing tailored sharp suits, fred perry polo's beautiful shoes etc. Riding Lambrettas & Vespa scooters . The original Mods were 60s, with bands like Who & Kinks. The Jam were part of the Mod revival. A great film about them is called Quadrophenia
