This is fantastic. Good old days where absolutely everything was done by hand... pure artistry.

What kind of pencil is the one he use for darkening and details, at 1:59? It's a 4B, 6B?
@travisnobleart14 күн бұрын
I was wondering the same. Appears to be a black colored pencil. Sanford Design Ebony, actually, appears to be the lettering. Nowadays these are prismacolor, and the smooth quality of the pencil lead supports this.

I saw the great kubert explain the process of making illustration and a layout of the comic page but he didn't elaborate much on the how to transfer a somewhat messy rough sketch on to the final board...did he use a lightbox?
@rockon81743 ай бұрын
Yes, he used a light box.
@rockon81743 ай бұрын
Jack Kirby drew directly on the board. That's why he could get 17 pages done in a day.

I've been collecting comics and drawing since I was a child. Joe is one of my favorites. One thing I notice when I watch this video outside of his great skill is that in the picture of the baseball player the bat and the ball are going the same direction. Is it a mistake? Is the batter just that ignorant? If he was trying to hit the pitch the motion lines would be in opposite directions. Just a thought

Legend of an artist. I took his course through the mail 20 plus years ago. I loved it that he would draw his corrections on tracing paper over yours. I saved those drawings for years but sadly I lost them in hurricane Harvey. I'm a professional graphic artist now and I still remember his instructions on selling the panel to the audience. What a master.

As far as his take on bad art I think he is only right to a point. I was a HUGE Jim Lee fan. Then he started mailing it in taking panels, pages and even covers and entire issues off. This went on for a long time before I just stopped buying his stuff. It wasn't free and I wasn't rich. The same reason I stopped going to McDonald's 20 years ago. I was tired of paying money for substandard product. In both cases.
