Misty may have worked hard to get to where she is, but she is far from the standards of the other principals. You would never see a broken line in another principal dancer, yet for Misty, if captured at a wrong angle, her lines are sloppy. It is an expectation that the principal dancers are capable of performing their roles and you hardly ever see such sloppy work. Although that performance where she switched to pose turns instead was justified as a faulty pointe shoe, so...

The thing also is that if Misty didnt tell everybody every day that she's black, nobody would know. She's being praised as this "black" ballerina, but she looks like a mulatto or Latina woman you'd see on the subway and be like oh...ok. it's the same as NYCB now claiming their first Asian female principal ballerina and she's half Indian. Looks completely white. It's ridiculous. At least if ABT is going to claim a black ballerina as a principal, they should get #1 an actually excellent, expressive and technically superb dancer, then #2 claim she's black. Not the other way around for PC sensationalism.

Why did you make a Misty vs other ballerinas video? Was it to stir up drama? I know this video is 4 years old but you can’t compare dancers because everyone’s different and nobody is better. Ballet perfection is impossible anyways….. also Misty is such a beautiful star!🌟
@regand78302 ай бұрын
Comparing a rehearsal to a performance, isn't right. She's one of the few black primas in a ballet company. Doesn't ever matter how talented one had to be to get there. Somebody is going to say 'lazy'. PFFT!
@lisakipp2 ай бұрын
Ugh, what is with this obsession with posting videos calling Misty lazy? She may not be the strongest technician, but she is beautiful. I'd love to see the credentials of the poster. Likely a ballet dancer wanna-be.

I’ve heard this before from professionals. She looks great to me, but I don’t have a trained eye. But I do know one thing…if she didn’t have talent she wouldn’t be here. Sometimes when a person finds themselves in superior roles, they work out all the better…😊 I think! I didn’t care for her variation either, but….i don’t know how they chose the variation they want.
@deananderson55942 ай бұрын
Why didn't you include the names and date for the first set of Misty's fouettes AND why was the middle section cut out so that we only see the beginning and the end, which ends on the music leaving me with the impression that she completed the full sequence of turns? Seems intentional to fit your narrative of her being "lazy" and not capable of doing the complete sequence!!! As for the other ballerinas...there were only 2 of the others whose turns I liked... Michelle and Luciana! Gillian's turns look tight and forced and her foot is in a terrible and unattractive position throughout! I've seen Dvorovenko do Don Q 3 times and was in awe of her turns then but not so much here! If you compare these ballerinas to those around the world none of them are among the best!

Obviously the amateur dance critics here are not people of color. Have no idea what takes to show up everyday BLACK in any profession and be the best at what they do. America has a long history of minimizing even dismissing BLACK EXCELLENCE. Misty is a treasure, a beautiful dancer and human being

idk this whole vid screams ‘i want a reason to hate on a black woman’ like you can say you think she’s a bad dancer fine but A) you fucking do it if it’s so easy B) she’s revolutionizing the ballet world along with the black ballerinas that came before her. if you can’t put some respect on all the hard work she and others have put into their craft maybe you should pull your own head out of your own ass for a minute and consider the fact that she is here for a fucking reason, i’m sorry you’re jealous

I just don’t get the same technical ability or grace from misty. She looks clumsy and like she’s flopping around. I think she’s still a good dancer but I think she’s better suited for contemporary pieces. She is not a good classical dancer. Does that mean she’s lazy? No. She’s still talented in her own way. But she’s def not classical ballerina

Why is she even at the ABT? She is the William McGonagall of ballet.
@Jordysegs894 ай бұрын
I’m sorry but as a ballet dancer myself, I can safely say Misty is NOT principal level! She clearly was only promoted because ABT wanted to be the first company with a token black principal. This is an insult to the many ballerinas who are 10x better than her who haven’t even been promoted to Demi soloist

What is missing from American ballet is storytelling and acting. Watch a Makarova video. She is emoting the essence of the story using her body. Every movement has meaning. American ballet is a string of individual steps, sometimes completed but often not.

Misty Copeland is a FRAUD😡 For her to claim to be a ballet dancer is ludicrous..her technique is non existent..her fuettes are poor..she attempted hopes on pointe in Gizelle and failed just after two..she has weak ankles and bulk of her work is overutilizing calf muscles that are unflattering..she was unable to complete fuettes as Kitry (must complete 32, she barely did 8 or 10)..the ONLY thing she has going for her is her fake smile and skin color..principal dancer was given to her out of pitty and choreography is carefully tailored to her limited dance abilities..I pitty her dance partner who has to physically pick her up instead of her flying like a bird and landing with ease on his shoulder..she changes choreography in the middle of performance due to her inability to deliver dance steps..I mean she can fool ppl but she can't fool me..she is horrible unfit dancer who should just retire and go away..I will surely not miss her b/c there is not one memorable performance.. give other black dancers a chance who actually have talent and stamina 😡

I Don't think u ppl are have the right to degrade Misty's artistry and talent. She is an extraordinarily talented woman regarfing dance, u should know that. Esp kniwing she started only at the age of 13... Do ABT exploit her bec of her certain attributes which could be sugarcoated as the american dream? Yes. Does the american dream work out for everyone? No. Is it just with everyone? No. Is Copeland responsible for beleiving in sthing which worked out for her? No. Is she really talentless as you morons try to depict her? No. Does she have more talent in her little finger than most of u commenting here how awkward she is? Yes.

@skyblueskin Why are all of your videos titled “Misty Copeland’s Lazy…” Seems obsessive. Definitely negative. You hate her and you want to spread that hate? Is that your legacy? Anyway, I love watching her dance. I’ve seen her dance live and loved it.

However we put it, this video is simply trying to discreditate and tear down Misty Copeland. There is no such a thing as lazy fouettés. Ballet is stamina, strength but lots of sweat and tears even if you just reach the corps de ballet . Shame on you. You could have done an appropriate critical video stating why you do not like her dancing, technique, musicality, personality, whatever you do not like with supporting arguments and videos.But no. Let's all move on to better ballet videos.....

90% of the folks commenting here write like someone with a personal grudge. After reading through the first 15 or so of the comments I double checked to make sure I didn't land on the "50 reasons to hate Misty Copeland" site. I've seen more informed and balanced commentary on so many ballet-centered sites that it's convinced me it's a characteristic of this site and perhaps a reason the people who gather here are drawn here. Usually you have to stumble onto a Kardashion-type site to get hit in the face with so much malice and bitchery. Look inward, folks. Anyone who lives the rigor of a professional ballerina in order to create moments of grace that can seem to add a whole extra dimension of beauty to music has my respect and awe. I can't begin to imagine what it takes, nor can I pretend to know the inner workings (the "politics") of ballet companies emerging from the pandemic and having to decide what ballets to stage and the myriad decisions that go into that process. I can just buy tickets and when that's not possible try to find clips online that showcase the best of every offereing I missed.
