I've done this with my young plum trees they put on a lot long thin branches at the top going in all directions and I've rounded them off.. They have only been in the ground 2 years and the trunk is very thin so all that top growth could snap it.. And it didn't stop them producing plums already. .

Interesting question for you. My very young roses are just starting to climb up.the wall. All the blooms are at the end of the main cane's because they are currently training fairly vertical. They say not to cut main cane's so what do I do with those blooms to encourage the main cane to get longer.

Agree with the comment below, of all the videos done on poppies, you are the only one that addresses cutting them back after spring blooming (here it's Jul 2nd) and you tell me that there's still enough of summer, the fall for them to get enough foliage again before winter, then have a beautiful display again next summer. Confirms what I was thinking. Short, sweet and to the point. Thank you. Watching from Ontario, Canada.

Hi, I see those seeds are from the hemsleyanus cultivar. Are they essentially the same for the Styrax Japonicus? I tried stratifying them for 3 months in the fridge in some peat moss, but I only had 1 out of about 30 sprout in the spring. I never peeled off any shell outer later, so maybe that was the issue. It's not easy to find information on them.

I've had acanthus mollis growing in deep shade for 40 years. My single plant is now 3 stately plants. Hardly what I'd call "invasive" and I'm grateful for each of them. If you're not going to be planting it in a shady area put it in a pot. It's a gorgeous plant.

Yes, in the U.K. we are being palmed off with this rubbish called ‘peat free’ compost! It looks and performs like sweepings from the woodland floor! The danger, besides the fact that it is rubbish, is that the top soil looks dry the day after you water it, so you water it again and the plant dies because under the dry surface the pot is waterlogged - if you use this crap buy a moisture probe (£9) off eBay! “Better for the planet” 😂 These UKs governmental WOKE extremists (“save this - save that”) don’t realise that in Ireland (where most of the UK’s peat comes from) they still use peat based compost, they still burn peat in the form of peat briquettes which are also exported and are manufactured by Bord na Móna, a partially STATE OWNED COMPANY!!! So clearly the Irish government aren’t concerned about the planet!

Like Net Zero and other Scams , peat free is on the whole not a bad idea, but as a specialist grower, not commercial but private, yhis is having an impact on people like myself, who have very larfe gardens and private collections of plants. We can not afford to make mistakes and our efforts do feed into the commercial sector as recipients of plant hunting. Proteacea are a case in point, where nutrient control is essential. Peat free composts do not fit this requirement. So Access to good quality peat is a must. The problem was the over and unecesary use of peat by the general public where peat free works fine. But for serious growers it does not.

Non-gardener, living in the North East UK. My late father bought a 9inch Cordy in the late 90's. Up until last year, I didn't know they flowered. Across the County, every one I saw had flowers. Couldn't believe after all these years it'd never happened, then everyone's at once.
