I grew up in NYC and remember thinking the Dolls were sorta passe. I'd seen Alice Cooper in 70 and 71 and already knew lotsa drag queen hustlers. Always funny now to hear how influential they were. Saw Ultravox at Hurrah's and always admired Foxx more than others in that Ballardian space. What charming and funny men these are.

'Hysteria' just turned 40 a few months ago. Crazy to think the League only released one single in 1982 ("Mirror Man"), and one single in 1983 ("Fascination"). 'Hysteria' was a very long 31 months after 'Dare'. At the time I had friends who worked in record stores, and we all agreed our favorite track was "I'm Coming Back", which would have been appropriately titled after such a wait. "Louise" is a firm fave. I met Joanne and Susan in 1999 on the Big Rewind tour and asked if it was in the set and Susan said, "No, it's not, soooorrrry. (turned to Joanne) We're gonna have to talk to Philip about adding that song, TOO MANY people are asking us for it."

Check out Martyns eyes at 27:00. They look weird with that reflection on his glasses 😂.

Boy George has been consistently authentic as and artist and human. I'd love to speak to him eventually in terms of wisdom.

wonder how many of these guys lived with girls who worked and supported them... then, when they got money, they married someone else. THAT'S rock n roll. how many men would do that for a woman..? how did Gillian manage through those long lean years..?

Peter Hook seems like a nice enough fellow. conservative though. I'm no New Order fan, but I love what he did with the bass in Joy Division.

I loved every minute of this. For some reason, I always knew he was from "Salford" (some others living there would prefer "Worsley") but never knew he grew up in Little Hulton. I originated from Little Hulton (I'm a BBC Audio Doctor Who author). I sincerely hope there is a Part Two as promised. Loved your interview, Martyn, with Gary Numan. Love Peter Cook. Please do pick up this interview where it leaves off.

Martyn. This is gold getting a Nile Rogers interview! But only 76 views? KZfaq is hard in the beginning but you have great content! Keep going! To grow your subscribers take out "Electronically Yours" from the title description. And just have EP26: Nile Rodgers Interview. Or have it with a quote with it like Nile Rodgers Interview "From Folk Song to Funk - How I changed Bowie's Let's Dance". You should also upload in HD, not potato cam 720p! It makes all the difference! Maybe also some interviews with fellow artists from Sheffield too - Jarvis Cocker would be a perfect start ;-)

@@martynware5897 - Cool to know that Martyn! With YT you'll be reaching a whole new audience. Alot of people just surf from their work laptops / phones. As a side note, I've been listening to Heaven 17 since first buying Penthouse and Pavement when I was 10. The soundtrack to my youth was H17, Human League etc. So thank for for being such a big inspiration!

This is awesome. Sound City 120 was my first amp as well. I saw Blondie at Max's and went to get a guitar the next day and start a band. They could not sell them $100 for the head and $75 for the speaker. $65 for the 62 Fender Jaguar and I was off to the races.

And that is why Gary is not a commercial airline pilot. Instead of spending the time available going through the checklists to restart engines etc as professionals are trained to, he's busy thinking about murdering his fellow colleagues in peril with a penknife. If I ever have the pleasure of meeting Mr.Numan I will make sure I know where the exit is. Hopefully if there is no imminent threat of death, I should be safe, but I might ask to frisk his pockets for sharp objects just to be safe. Loved the chat - I certainly learnt a lot!

Hi .❤ I had a dream last week that I was on a night out drinking with Gary and he asked me what did I think about his latest music and concerts . I said to him your music is amazing . ❤ Martyn I love those classical music compositions you made with Sheffield University strings , this makes me wonder what you would add to a mezzo singing voice with your electronic musical mind ? Mm how interesting i wonder how you would make such a voice sound mmm
