Hello, i really appreciate all your videos and the effort put into them. It's a huge help. Could you please make a video on how to answer drama questions (passage based and essay type) according to the CAIE English Literature pattern along with sample answers. I've been struggling as I am mostly self taught.

I just have a suggestion (if I may): I see it better if the poem is read as a whole before the detailed analysis, so that we can make a general idea about the poem before getting into analysing it, because some of the poems are unknown to the viewers here. Hello, thanks for your feedback. I did consider reading the poem first but I made a conscious decision not to as I didn't want the videos to become too unwieldy and make people switch off before they got to the actual analysis! I have started including the poem in written form in the details section so that it can be read beforehand.

I disagree that the volta occurs at Line 12; it is mid line 8 "Our doom is ever near" - here the tone shifts and Turner stops talking about the fly and moves to discuss the brutal reality of death.

It would be unusual in a Shakespearean sonnet to have the volta so early - but your interpretation is just as valid if you can justify it.

The way I know this poem will come up just bc I hate it so much 😖😖 I will be so upset if the poems that come up are “He Never Expected Much”, “Away, Melancholy” “Spirit is too Blunt” or “A consumers report”! But I’m absolutely convinced one of them will (I was hoping for Ozymandias ☹). Your videos have helped tons though, so thank you!
