Well I have MK 3 Vitalizer (it's great "mojo" source, especially Bass, thight, soft, expander of course...), and soon coming is Eysia Xfitler and SSL BUS +. And the rest is history , haha. I hope I would not need another 22 units. :)) I just think "less is more". You don't need 101 units, if you're working on "one genre" of music; but if you think you need so many units, than great. I would go nutts, experimenting all 1000000 options and combinations 😆😆

Hello, this is a very good quality explanatory video. I saw this elysia and its mastering version a few days ago and that convinced me to buy it, especially since I saw your video afterwards, so I'm thinking of ordering it very soon for my master hardware chain. My question is would you advise me to put it before or after a vari mu type compressor?

@@thismixissick Thank you for your advice, for the moment my analog chain is made up in this order: Bax eq > SSL fusion > SSL bus+ > Tegeler vari tube > SPL vitalizer mk3-t to then finish in the box to complete the digital master with the plugins . In the SSL fusion insert I have a pair of Lang peq 2s and a pair of Pultec EQM-1S3s. So far I have done quite a few tests of different chains and this is the one that suits me best and so my question is would you advise me to put the elysia nvelope ME before or after the vitalizer SPL? Obviously u can't achieve a 0 true peak with analogue limiter, so what u put after ur gear when u come back into the daw? After my bettermaker2.0 i always put a proL2 like if it was a clipper(super low attack and super fast release) without increasing gain.
@thismixissick
@thismixissick 11 күн бұрын
No, it indeed doesn’t do true peak limiting to 0. If you want that, a simple limiter after coming back in the DAW can be a great way to go, for example, the Ozone Maximizer. However, it’s all project-dependent, so it can differ per session.

This is all good, but the most important thing 90% miss is eliminating the information in the mix that is not relevant (makes mix boxy, dull, not larger than life etc.) and destroys all future attempts to push your mix to the limits in mastering etc. Yes, low end, O.K. it's obvious like an elefant in the room, but the big thing is eliminating the massive amounts of low - mids on every tracks (maybe one element, track or two are exceptions, it deppends on the frequency structure of the track...) so you have the space then for your mix to explode in the mastering stages. You don't eliminate them 100% but "you set the stage" (having belanced moves of course between elements so they work together) with all the tracks for boosting that stage (where 99% of the music is: from approx. 100HZ up to approx. 2KHZ) in mastering with analog hardware gear, mastering plug ins, saturation etc. You can squeeze max. out of your expensive gear rader than just playing the elimination game that could be played with 10$ software ... O.K. enough, this one is for free for all the guys that struggle, but I'm not going to give away more, it was too much try and error for more than 20 years. It's counterintuitive when you see it what the pro mixers are doing (it would blow your mind what kind of radical moves are happening...) but it's a game changer in the end making a difference between an average producer, mixer and a pro level guy. Space (for loudness etc.) the final frontier, haha.
@thismixissick
@thismixissick 17 күн бұрын
Great addition, thank you! Absolutely. It’s crucial to get it right at the source rather than 'fixing' things later, as this approach yields the best results in mastering.

This is a non-sense artistically and technically speaking... do you know that when played on the radio that kind of over clipped track will play less "catchy" ? Do you know that ALL radio stations have ALL their Audio processor to do that Job? Orban, Omnia, ST, BreakAway One, DSPX and so many other exotic brands? And in all these audio processors the clipper is the last stage of the process, they can even clip the multiplex signal (The stereo signal to gain some PMux)... But LESS is MORE ! A serious & decent Sound engineer should never clip a song, NEVER! But he should instead use a gentle Limiter (lookahead or not it's a matter of taste) Frankly, I've been doing mixing & mastering for 30 years, i am now 55, No Serious Sound engineer will ever do that to an artist's track... or he has a serious problem...
@thismixissick
@thismixissick 20 күн бұрын
Thanks for explaining some of the techniques used by radio stations! Keep in mind that this video is about the loud masters of dance tracks, which you can, for example, hear in a DJ set or on Beatport. You can definitely use a more dynamic master when it’s aimed at radio playback. However, it’s important to recognize the current targets of dance tracks and that clipping is a significant part of today’s modern sound.
@drowzy2309
@drowzy2309 19 күн бұрын
You're not wrong, but like OP said, this is for Bass music. Most of which isn't playing on the radio station, but live audiences and headphone users/car systems. This is literal GOLD for these use cases.
@Makiguli
@Makiguli 19 күн бұрын
@@thismixissick I 'am okay with you, if the target is only the Clubbing Scene, i share your thoughts, BUT if that track becomes a HIT and is played on Radios, you have to think of doing 2 different masters...
