My oboe lower joint wont play any notes I watched your video on how to fix it however its not working and I don’t know what it could be
@OboeFiles28 күн бұрын
Oh is your oboe wood? Have you looked for any cracks in the top joint?
@Smoress71128 күн бұрын
@@OboeFiles It is a rosewood Full conservatory oboe, no cracks thank goodness. I managed to get C, B natural, A, Ab, and G however the Bb is way out of tune, it is almost a step up sounds like a C now. Plus the lower joint completely wont work. Any suggestions I just got this oboe yesterday and it worked fine until when I played it again yesterday night it completely did not work.
@Smoress71128 күн бұрын
@@OboeFiles I found out what was the problem i dont know how to fix it though.. by the A key there are two screws literally right next to each other one on the left and one on the right, when i hold the C, A, G and F# key in the front, I push the left screw and it has more room to go up which makes it be able to produce the low notes. but when i dont hold it down it falls down a tiny bit and no sound comes out.

Thank you that is very kind of you! Everyone’s tone is so personal like their voice. I would be excited to hear you play and know that no one else in the world can truly copy your voice and all the rich memory of experience you deliver inside of the vibrations . Play beautifully and plz keep us all posted on how it’s going for you!

I find that the tone on the C above middle C (C5 I think) is awful - very weedy and strangled. I see you play with both first fingers down, rather than just the left hand, but that doesn't make a huge amount of difference for me. Any thoughts or advice?
@OboeFilesАй бұрын
I’m not sure I understand the fingers you meant, but evenness of tone is mostly done with the body and mouth, and of course you need a good reed - hope this helps?

How do you go about drilling half hole technique like C to D, B to D, Bb to D and vice versa? I noticed that keeping right hand down help can alleviate crossing noises but is that a good habit to develop or more of just a crutch?

I think this may not work out so well in the long run, I’ll make a video on this topic to help :)

One other one I'd like to know about: have you ever gotten to try out a B&H Regent? I've heard a lot of people say they're pretty solid beginner instruments, but I've also heard a few say the exact opposite

Thanks. Up till now I've only done one octave. So now I will see if I can work through all the notes and get to two octaves. I appreciate your help as I cannot, at present, afford a private teacher. Have a nice day! 😊

Geez, young people think everything is new. Since 1972, I've had an extremely rare copy of New Sounds For Woodwinds by Bartolozzi. First published in 1967. My '71 reprint also comes with a vinyl 45 record for the typical woodwinds, flute oboe clarinet and bassoon, demonstrating these multiphonics. Very rare now, even the 1982 publication. The demo record is a sampling of the multiphonics, and even a composition for the quartet. Not everything you may be interested in is on the internet, but just a limited tease of historical realities. Oboist dince 1965. I'll be bending notes on the oboe next month in The Composer Is Dead, in the Paradise Symphony here in northern California. You want to get better? Make loads of reeds, and sight read, sight read, sight read!
