Great review. I always look forward to a Unicorn. felt the tonewoods were too "woody" but not in a good way. My ears felt a lot of restraint and not much chime at all. Good if you played Black Sabbath and Neil Young in double drop D or DADGAD tuning. It looks very nice but it sounds like a what I would expect a unicorn of a guitar in Redwood over Walnut. I do have a Larrivee OM-3 which is Moon over Bhilwara and that Bhilwara is more of a mahogany adjacent type of EIR, it is discontinued now. Not sure if it was discontinued because of its Unicorn status or they just ran out of the woodpile. I love it though.

Hi, sounds lovely. May I ask how much you had to pay for the whole process? Thanks!
@acousticmusicnthings17 күн бұрын
@@danyjr this was quoted at a little over 7K. However, obviously they did not get it correct so it was returned to them. And currently, I believe they have shut down their made to measure acoustic offering at the moment.
@danyjr17 күн бұрын
@@acousticmusicnthings Wow, that is pretty expensive considering the lack of attention to details. The guitar sounds excellent right out of the box but such a shame they didn't get it correct. Gibson's QC has been quite poor for as long as remember especially considering the prices they charge the customer. My experience with big companies (guitar related or otherwise) has been usually like this, you're just a small number in their accounting database. A smaller workshop or a one-man luthier usually develops a personal connection with the end user.

This is the 800th yt video (along with my own experience) I'm a hog guy through and through. Rw in all guitars sounds constrained to me. Not bad by any means, just doesn't fill in the nuanced tone gaps mahogany does. To my ears at least. Cheers.

Question: the flat strings you put on - are those also 13-56 gauge like the original strings? I own the same guitar (really enjoying it) and was thinking about swapping strings (and maybe even going lighter gauge).
@acousticmusicnthingsАй бұрын
They are the D'Addario Flat Top 13-56. I don't think this guitar would do well with lighter strings. The scale length is so short they might just flop around.
@timelwell7002Ай бұрын
I often use D'Addario Flat Tops as well. Although, on some acoustic guitars, the D'Addario Half-Rounds actually sound better. Sometimes we just have to think 'outside the box' so to speak and let our ears dictate which strings suit any particular guitar best.

I commissioned Atkin to build an acoustic baritone guitar, which was excellent. They are based near the the historic city of Canterbury, in Kent, UK. I would highly recommend anyone to buy a guitar from Atkin if they have the necessary funds to do so.

Nice demo. I own this and its big brother, the e10ss/v, which is basically the same guitar but as a slope-shouldered dreadnaught, so a bigger sound and better strummer, and both are just wonderful instruments. I often think that, if I ever really stripped down, I'd own those two and my old Yamaha laminate to take to campfires and other places where I wouldn't want to worry about my guitar. The sound is beautiful (especially if you love mahogany back and side guitars, which I do), and it plays like a dream.

Thanks. I’ve said I’d always like one of these again.

Playability question: is this guitar more on the low action slinky side, or is it one of those harder to play acoustics?
@acousticmusicnthingsАй бұрын
Really depends on how you set it up but in general shorter scale guitars are going to be easier to play due to lower string tension. Action is how you set it up but this one was set up pretty good out of the box. Honestly after all the guitars I’ve had I still have nothing but good things to say about this model and if the opportunity to own one again pops up, I’d take it.
@Luis-hx6edАй бұрын
@@acousticmusicnthings thanks! I am looking for an acoustic, but don't know much about them, as I play electrics. Maybe that is the reason why I am looking mostly for small bodies as well

At one point I had a Gibson dreadnaught with a plasic bridge. I got my friendly luthier to make a rosewood bridge to replace it, which transformed the tone from being absolute cr*p to excellent. Only guitar collectors would prefer a hollow plastic bridge, no musician worthy of the name would be able to tolerate it..!
