Great video and what amazing conditions to windsurf. I have not heard of Soma Bay before and didn't realise that Egypt had such conditions for windsurfing. I like your choice of music to accompany the video. Btw, what mitts do you use? I am looking for a pair of gloves for some comfort but don't want full length gloves.

Thanks so much Richard! Egypt has lot's to offer. Music is always difficult to find and match especially with the rights, but this seems to be working. Thanks! I always ware gloves, it works for me. Thanks, I appreciate your perspective on this. Personally, I feel a deep connection to supporting innovation and design, especially when it originates from the creativity of Dutch entrepreneurs and innovators. It's been an incredible journey for me to witness these ideas evolve from concept to prototype and finally, fully realized products, with sails being a crucial component. In my windsurfing experience, I've come to understand that each of us has a unique journey, and the gear we choose should resonate with our individual purpose and values. I genuinely value the essence of finding equipment that aligns seamlessly with one's personal windsurfing aspirations. The charm of innovative design and advanced technology in the windsurfing world is something I hold dear. Witnessing brands invest in pushing the boundaries of performance and durability is not just impressive, but it adds a fascinating edge to our windsurfing experiences. In a market saturated with options, it's inspiring to see brands like North or Tribal prioritise innovation. In the end, our individual journeys contribute to the richness and joy that define this sport. Here's to more innovation, more unique stories, and the collective joy we find in windsurfing!

Is it really worth the investment? Is you sailing experience extensively upgraded buy this north rig?
@KirstenBaasNED1665 ай бұрын
Hey Francois (@FrancoisTCS), great question! The worth of investing in a North Sail/Rig, or any gear for that matter, is a personal call influenced by several factors. Here's my take: Freqquency of usage: Consider how often you hit the water. The more you sail, the more value you'll likely extract from a quality rig. Financial situation: Assess your budget and whether the investment aligns with your financial comfort. The difference between new gear/brands is not so great. Joy of windsurfing: If windsurfing brings you immense happiness, investing in high-performance gear can elevate that joy. Mastery level: Your skill level matters. Advanced gear might offer more benefits to an experienced windsurfer. Differences in feel: Can you perceive the nuances and improvements offered by the North rig? Ambitions: Your windsurfing goals play a role. If you're aiming high, quality gear can be a game-changer. Durability: Consider the long-term durability of the gear. A more durable rig might justify a higher upfront cost. Handling: Smooth handling can significantly enhance your overall windsurfing experience. Innovation: I think the North rig/sail (air cambers, material etc ) wasn't just an update. I love to embrace and support the latest innovations in windsufing tech. Most importantly, the decision comes down to whether you genuinely desire new gear. While the monetary difference may not be huge when compared to the joy and performance you gain, it's essential to evaluate where you're coming from and what you're accustomed to. Personally, I compared the North sail/rig to what I knew, started with the 6.8, and was blown away by its advantages in performance, durability, range, handling, and even travel convenience. It's safe to say I'm genuinely excited and enthusiastic about these sails. Hope this helps you make an informed decision!

@@KirstenBaasNED166 Thank you for your detailed answer. Let’s say it like this. I am reasonably good on flat water windsurfing between 13-30kt. I want to do it at low level of gear, which leads me to use one board (112l/69cm long distance Thommen) and 2 sails (S_Pace 7,8 and 6,6). As a consequence I cannot pretend doing competition 😬🙏🏼. I enjoy riding with similar minded people and push my limits from time to time in local speed challenge. I’ll have to change my sails in 2-3years, and have always been attracted by the 3D and membrane tech (avanti, phantom, north)… north is the first which really make a 3D. I’ll have to try and see if it makes a difference in my sailing feelings.

Hi Kirsten, I've been to Dahab twice now, renting gear from Harry Nass. But you seem to prefer Soma bay? Any reasons for that? And do you always travel with your gear?
@KirstenBaasNED1666 ай бұрын
Hi Fons, Dahab is also a great spot to windsurf! After Dahab we discovered Hurghada and after Soma Bay. There are lots of reasons why we went back to Soma Bay. I reckon that the wind conditions of Dahab and Soma Bay are comparable. We feel home at the surfstation in Soma Bay. We know Peter Mueller, the station chief of Surfmotion, quiet well and are enthousiastic how he runs the station. He comes from near my hometown in Germany, so that generates lots of trust and fun. He can evaluate the situation well enough to have us fly out there. Dahab, in these turbulent times is maybe a different thing. The spot is fabulous! Wind, sun and lots of km to windsurf. It is amazing, beautiful and you don't have enough time to explore all of the runs you can make in 1-2 weeks. No rare fish, so that also feels safe! There are always windsurfers that have the skills to join on these sessions or windsurfers with more skills you can join. The community works great to go out in a pack. And yes, we like to take our own gear. That is also a great advantage of surfmotion, because you can rent a corner for your gear. This time we also took new gear to try with us. The North Freespeeds.... What more can I say! totally in love with Soma Bay :-) @fonsvandenhove
@RobertBaas6 ай бұрын
Dear Fons, Kirsten already describes that both (and many other) locations on the Red Sea are beautiful windsurfing areas. What's great about Soma Bay is that it's approximately a 40-minute drive from the airport, and Surfmotion also offers good Patrik slalom boards for rent. What I remember from Dahab is that if you went far enough out, you could catch some really nice swells. That's not the case in Soma Bay there, it feels like you're windsurfing on a lake. (And that gives some surfers a sense of security ;-))

I also own few Milos. But is it disappointment. Sound quality is poor when doing something "action" like skiing. Clip is just joke... Long story short. Could be used for hiking or walking, but not for any action sport.
@alancshi Жыл бұрын
I think this is a generous assessment. I received my pair this week, and testing it in ideal conditions, the performance is abysmal I think the advertisements are borderline a scam. With two milos with direct line of sight on a straight road (nothing in the way), in less around 20-30m, Milos lose connectivity and was already getting static in the audio before then. We were so close just talking loudly could be heard even without radios, so it is effectively useless. When Milos lose connectivity (which is so easy since it's performance is basically as good as a string with two tin cans attached to them), it can take minutes before it regains connectivity to your party. If you can shout, you can do better than Milo. I've asked for a return, but heard nothing back. I may make a video to show everyone how awful this product is.
