The tabs on either side of the root end of the main wing can be used to trim roll tendencies. Most balsa free flight trim roll, pitch, and yaw by bending control surfaces slightly (rudder, elevator, wing tips)

Wait a sec… Same “OJ” that is infamous for the slow White Bronco Pursuit? Imagine the hairballs?!? 😆 Sorry feline fans. I just couldn’t resist childish jocularity. Yet another excellent video… I’m certainly enjoying my “binge watching” time here. I have just the perfect use for this… I have a piece of 7/8” Heliax to thoroughly test. It’s direct buried at my brother’s newly purchased farm. I still can’t understand why the previous “Ham” didn’t bother spending a few extra cents and a few minutes (or hours?) of time burying schedule 40 PVC conduit and pulling the hard line through, along with spare pull strings and spare cabling.. The cable seems intact but performance of the attached repeater is spotty. I plan on heading there myself to test everything. Thank you Sir.

In most of New Jersey you can occasionally see the Jersey Shore when the medical waste isn’t obstructing the water. The rest? Burned out ghettos, chemical plants and abandoned garbage dumps and landfills. Why can’t I see those beautiful mount from here? 😆🤣 Seriously.. Thanks for your videos.

finally a video that shows the correct way to measure PEP power, using zero-span on a spectrum analyzer. it should be noted, that the RBW, VBW should be greater than the signal's modulation bandwidth to ensure correct power measurement. 30khz RBW should be good for SSB. but for pulsed signals, radar, etc, RBW should be 10Mhz to measure correct pulsewidth and peak power.

A 30db attenuator gives you a minimum of 60db return loss not 30db. Why? because the power the analyzer sees gets attenuated 2 times once going to the open port and once being reflected back through the attenuator. www.ittc.ku.edu/~jstiles/622/handouts/Attenuators.pdf
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 Жыл бұрын
The return loss can easily be less than twice the loss of of the attenuator if the attenuator is not exactly 50 ohms with no capacitive or inductive reactance

A few years ago I swept my 4x18xxx array with a spectrum analyzer and a tracking generator with a generator output of 0dbm (1mw) when I got a call from a friend living 40 miles away asking me to listen for mysterious sweeping carrier on the 2m band. Turned out it was my setup. Always be aware that your carrier doesn't stay in your system but is radiated and can potentially interfere in and outside the ham bands. Use the lowest tracking signal amplitude you can live with.

The DNR function on all the newer Yaesu products is outstanding. I read the 991A's DSP chip is the same as in the 891, 101D, 101MP. The 3000's DSP chip is the same as in the 5000 and 1200. I have the 3000 and love it. Jim, while on 15M you had the digital notch filter DNF on, but it was turned off for 17M. When I do that on my 3000, I get the enhanced "watery" sound you did at setting 4. With DNF off, I can run DNR up to 9+ without watery sound. Maybe it'll work for you as well. 73

It has been awhile but I believe saving the reference is part of Rigols recommended calibration proceedure for tracking generator use. This evens out the variations in the digitally generated TG levels. I think I covered this in other videos in this series.

Hello James, I enjoyed your video. I have some Telewave bandpass filters. Is there a simple way to convert them to Band pass / band reject?
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 2 жыл бұрын
If you had the correct Pass-Reject loop for the can, it is fairly simple. However, it also requires a special can top to allow for the required anti-resonant tuning cap. It might be possible to get this done by Telewave but I haven't worked there for a number of years thus don't know their current policies.
@crimson0arrow
@crimson0arrow 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimeagle1 Thank you for the quick reply James. Unfortunately I know little about Cavities. For the Pass-Reject loop does it have to go inside the can or attach to the connector at the top? Same for the anti-resonating tuning cap? Finally could please point me to where I might get the construction details.
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 2 жыл бұрын
As I indicated, this isn't really something that can be "homebrewed". The factory might do it for a price but it takes significant changes to the top of the unit and the loop inside. Best done at the factory.

Nice plane and nice flight. Could you please confirm, if I observed correctly in the video when showing top view of plane, that you have made provision for elevator (seems raised up) and rudder in the tail section to help in the flight?
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I provided for elevator and rudder trim. I usually use individual left and right elevators to allow slightly different trim to flatten out turns. Rudder is normal. All are relatively small compared to rc planes since we are only trying to provide trim, not aerobatic controls. I also may trim the main wing, if needed.

Okay I found some capacitors! So exciting! They're rated 2.7 and 3 V. I noticed you're using 4.5V battery pack. So I suppose in theory you're charging above the 2.7V? I guess 4.5 doesn't do any quick harm? I'm supposing if it's over their limit it might mean limited life but I think these things will still outlast our applications. Does that sound about right?
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 3 жыл бұрын
Actually I go by how long I charge the capacitor. I usually stop at 10 to 20 seconds which only allows about 2.7 Volts. As the cap charges to near its max voltage it will reduce the rate at which it accepts further voltage. I haven't had any cap failures. You can observe this using an amp meter. Charge rate starts at about 2-3 amps but drops rapidly as the cap voltage increases. Keep in mind that standard AA batteries have moderate internal resistance. I wouldn't use LiPo batteries this way because they would likely charge too fast and too high in voltage. They would be OK if used in a regulated circuit like shown in the sonex413 videos, however.
@DarcyWhyte
@DarcyWhyte 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimeagle1 Thanks for the note. I think I will make a charging circuit so it will always go to the same voltage. That way if I use a higher current solution it will be a fairly fast charge. Just a thought. Further, I'm thinking of having a voltage boost to make the voltage at the motor constant. Or even create my own profile of power. Just a crazy thought. Where do you live by the way? I'm up in Ottawa in Canada.
@jimeagle1
@jimeagle1 3 жыл бұрын
@@DarcyWhyte Actually, I have converted some to LiPo power and RC. I use 8-9 gram batteries, typically, for this. I live in San Jose, CA thus stay in the park flyer category... mostly 12-30 inch (30-70cm) foam wings under 50 grams all up weight. Quieter and safer for urban flying though restricting my flight opportunities to wind speeds under 10 MPH ( 16 km per hour)... usually in the early morning or near sunset.
