I wish I could remember. I will see if I can dig it up. I had to modify it to make it reach the spoil board.

Paved To Pines Inc excellent machine. Still have it. I use sketchup to design, import to rhino which is super old. I have enroute to nest. Wincnc is my controller. Super accurate machine. Had to replace bearings due to using wrong grease. Dust collection is the weakness. However, if you get that figured out, its excellent.

Do you still have the machine? How do you feel about ShopSabre? I'm thinking about one, but haven't seen one firsthand yet. How is the quality and accuracy?

Frank, i just re-read your post, and i think i understand better now what you are saying. I may have confused you and me both using the term “toolholder”. I have always called a toolholder the part that the router bit mounts in with the collet. I guess that makes the forks the toolholder toolholder LOL. Just to clarify, i did decide to purchase new “non-fork” style ISO30 toolholders when i did this project. They are the plunge style; the same ones used on a thermwood. They were not cheap, and i had to buy a special tool just to change the bits. Now that i understand better that you are keeping your fork style tool holders, i think you can easily accomplish the same thing i did building your own holders. I’d be willing to bet that Lowes or Home Depot have some misc parts you could piece together to make them easily. The big question for me is how the HSD spindle releases the tool. If it’s like mine, it just lets it go and blows the dust off at the same time. If you calibrate the machine precisely, you won’t need rubber bands or any tension holding the tool when the router moves back up to grab another tool. Sorry for the confusion!!! Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Would love to see pics of the final product.

Hello Again... I ordered 2 pairs of Basket tool Hoolders... And they Came in..I have an HSD Spindle with ISO30 Toolholders... the kind that go into forks.However.. the baskets fingers are much wider... as if for a larger toolholder.Did you have to order another kind of toolholer?

Hi again. I need to dig up my invoice of the exact parts i ordered. Me and my family have moved to a different city, and my woodworking shop where my cnc is located is still back 100 miles south of here at my other residence. I know i have the part numbers, etc there. I remember i ordered a few different styles before i got the correct ones (it was a frustrating search). Before i lucked up and got the ones i bought, i contemplated making some tool holders. It would be super easy (and cheap) since the router is just setting them down and releasing them into holes. However, i’m not sure if the HSD spindle releases the tool the same way as my PSD Colombo. It will be a few weeks before i make it back to the shop. If i find part numbers in the meantime, i will send.

Thanks for writing back. I just ordered two tool holders like that to sample them. They also need a little rubber band I guess to keep tension on them. After using them for a few years, are they durable or did a little fingers tend to break off? I guess should I order some extra as a backup? Thank you for your feedback as I'm looking to convert over to these, cuz I seen many advantages

Mine have lasted 3 years without any issues. I didn’t use rubber bands either. If you calibrate the machine just right, you probably won’t need them. It wouldn’t hurt to order a backup.

I don't know if you monitor you KZfaq Comments... but I wanted to ask your reflection about going to these tool holders... Any Negative or downsides compared to the forkstyle?... Is there a problem with ISO30 with extended shanks?.. the ones you use for the smaller shorter bits?

No negative; all positive. I had to purchase a special toolholder mechanism for changing the bits and collets (about $150); thats the only downside. It’s all upside from there. Bottom line, it’s all about dust collection for me. Shop Sabre makes great machines, but their dust collection is sub-par in my opinion. Using these tool holders allows the machine to plunge to change the bits vs. do a side motion, which allows you to have a lot of options for a dust skirt. I haven’t run into any ISO30 extended shank issue. Seriously, no issues other than my bit i use to plane my table wont fit into the holder, but i only use it every few months anyway so no big deal. I have another video on youtube with the machine operating with the modified dust skirt and you can see there is barely any dust. The dust collection is what got me thinking about changing toolholders. It was super easy to program by the way. Thanks

Hey I really like these tool holders.. Where did you get them?... Did you make them ? Do you see any downsides to this style versus the Fork Style tool holders?

I purchased tool holders from Thermwood re-seller site. I got a stock piece of aluminum and cut holes and tapped for threads in holders. I like them much better because it allows for you to have a much more efficient dust skirt. I am not a fan of fork style tool holders because they don't allow for a good dust skirt. The dust skirt has to be mounted higher to allow for forks to go in sideways but with the straight plunge holders, you can have a much better dust skirt and it just drops the tool into the holder. I personally don't know why Shopsabre didn't use this style to begin with; maybe it's patented???? Since i made this conversion, the machine picks up 95% of ALL dust vs. 65% to 75% on the original one. Much less cleanup which saves me lots of time.
