All the people whining about rollkur and bad form should check out the videos from the two Iberian schools. They are *much* worse, with much tighter reins, and they have the horses do as many as ten jumps on the courbette, but you never ever see any complaints about them, only the Spanish Riding School. Funny, that.

They also seem to forget that this video is from around a dozen years ago, or before the EEEVVIILLLL Elizabeth Gurtler took over. Again, very odd. It's like someone is deliberately spamming the SRS videos to make a point.

@@evansquilt Wrong. I was a this performance in Paris. Watched all three shows. This was one of the two "Four Schools" shows at Bercy which were held just a few years apart. France, Austria, Portugal and Spain. By this time some of the "very best" of the time had left: about 100 years of collective knowledge, from teacher to horse to student, were gone. Gurtler took over years before this event. The "Golden Years" occurred under Meixner, Col. P., Col. Handler and Gen. Albrecht.

People have a hard time seeing how much work goes into making a rider and a great mount. People with a some riding experience see a horse collected and they think its Rollkur. They must be collected when they do this work, how could a person walk behind a horse doing an extension? These people are some of the best riders in the world.

Regressed style that would have Alois Podhajsky rolling over in his grave. Where is the mise en main? Why is the handler controlling from his shoulders with unyielding grip and being dragged over the hips leaning backwards? Where is the correct ramener?

I use to thinking the Spanish School of Vienna and Dressage was a speculator display of horsemanship...then I learned better.

Sigh - another example of overbent and on the forehand horses as part of "modern" dressage. I really wish the SRS would reconsider their training and return to the classical methods. Their horses are suffering due to it. Lipizzans are noble, beautiful creatures who should be allowed to show off, not be forced into an overbent frame for 'obedience'. This saddens me.

There's no going back. The necessary knowledge -- there are only two pages of the School's theory in writing -- is passed from trainer to horse to student and on and on by all three doing. I was a student at the School during some of the "Golden Years" and I studied under SRS riders in Europe and the US. As Herr von Neindorff said not long before he died, "Dressage is dead." As for this Am Langen Zuegle performance: those who have never done this do not know that the balance required for both horse and rider comes from a secure connection between the two. There are films of earlier stallions which were trained for this work which I prefer. But having done a lot of this myself, it is far more difficult than doing the same work while in the saddle.

I saw Andreas Hausberger do a clinic 15 miles from my home! These riders work so hard and it takes years to achieve this level of riding. My heros to this noble creature, the horse!
