Good idea for an advert...car was total crap.

Fantastically memorable and underrated advert - if a blatant rip-off of a famous Escher lithograph. Plus, the decidedly out-of-place dish of olives at the end is presumably there to take the taste away of the pishwater...

Thanks for this always remembered this as being more das boot but they sound like bloody nice chaps to quote tim nice but dim classic ad from my youth

Most memorable car ad I remember. Two minutes long & can never remember it being edited during the duration it was on TV.

Outstanding example of a TV advert. The Strada tagline was, in full, "Designed by computer, silenced by laser, handbuilt by robots".

About 18 or 19p when converted to decimal money.

Classic advert.

Always loved this advert-Was it a real set built like an Esher drawing or part computer generated and the people going round a scaled down top piece "stair" effect?

Probably the best ad of the 80's. But not Carlsberg.

The guy was obviously a retiring bank manager who didn’t get a decent pension, stole from the bank and needed a quick meal so he could escape.

Frozen food was a relatively new thing back then.

I was 8 when this ad was shown, and I remember thinking that there was a part where it sounded like the singer was saying "family car, family car". WInd forward about 25 years, and this ad is included in one of C4's "100 Greatest" programmes, and there's one of the original creative team saying that the same thing had occurred to them and that's part of the reason why they picked the song :)

There's something slightly disturbing about this advert...I do NOT mean in any nasty sense...its just...I dunno, a bit disturbing and negative. He also plucks the toddler out of the cot just a fraction too forcefully to make it comfortable viewing...Perhaps my sensibilities are influenced by society...but I do not think this advert would be made in the Uk in 2012.
@Stereolabdream12 жыл бұрын
absolutely. Another example being such fine frozen foods as the Birdseye Lasagne as advertised by June Whitfield (available here on youtube).

However, like a lot of "processed" frozen food at that time- they were seen as "premium" foods at the time. A classic example is the Findus Crispy Pancake...you wouldn't touch it now, but then, it was the big new thing...

Do you know why they were so heavily advertised? Beef burgers back then were GHASTLY things. I haven't eaten one in years.

What is more sexist, is the fact there were / still are finishing schools for young women. This advert is just a parody of that fact.
