Warren is my first saxophone idol. I listened to this tape over and over again and played along with it on the saxophone. I played Second Chance at my eighth grade graduation in 1986. I've gotten to know Warren over the years and played along with Streetlife 2 or 3 times including at my wedding. I got the CD years later in college and then the LP about a year ago as a present from a used record store.

This is a solid lineup. I just watched a live recording of this group somewhere on KZfaq. Which led me here. Tony levin is climbing the ranks of my favorite bassists. Something about his tone and technique is so unique.

I bought this masterpiece when it came out in 1995. I still listen to it in 2024. Marion Meadows plays a beautiful sax.

Tony Levin’s bass tone is SO heavy, amazing transition for someone who had switched from upright just a few years earlier!

This was from the movie. Please read the description. They are a mix of two sources for the best sound; the intro came directly from the DVD and the song came from the soundtrack album.

Turns out that Kevin was a good friend of a family friend by the name of Dr. Don Mizell who is Grammy Award winning producer. I had the opportunity to speak with him via phone one day and found him interesting. I never got to tell him the valuable lesson I learned when a local band I was performing with opened for the group he was known for…The Blackbyrds. He will be truly missed. Rest well, Kevin 🙏🏾🙏🏾

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Some of the arrangements on this album have Nelson sounding a bit like Boney James while still sounding like himself, and I kinda like it.
