This was incredibly interesting to me. I truly appreciate the labour put into perfecting the print; registering & re-registering to get it right. Sign writers can auto cut images onto rubylith. Old school methods almost forgotten. Have also made stencil applying rubylith to screen using solvent. Not to durable but ok for hobbyists.

Yes, we’ve done some cutting of ruby from vector files. Works great. But I enjoy the results that handwork adds to the image, and consider it an important part of the education, even if they move to digitally created in the future. I don’t use solvent adhered films only because I’m trying to avoid toxins in the classroom.

@@jeffreydell901 Avoiding workplace hazards is very important. I'm now retired, but twenty five years as specialist stencil maker has unfortunately caused bcc cancer. Have lost eye, lids and surrounds. LED safer than metal halide, but take no chances. Lights can be dangerous over time also. Not only exposure units, but also uv ink curing has risk of arc eye. Had that too. 🙄🫣👍

I notice you're using enclosed unit with intergrater. Ive used free standing metal halide as dedicated screen setup for 25 years. I wonder, are enclosed units now more used as UV light hazard has been recognized? I ask as ive had eye removed due to bcc cancer invasion of lids and surrounds. In your opinion would you think this likley? Im battling authorities here over workers compensation and am feeling alone. I am likley only one in New Zealand. Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hmmmm. I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. I am no authority on those matters, but the essential wavelengths that “cure” the emulsion are the ultraviolet ones - same wavelengths that sunburn our skin, cause skin cancer, and can damage the eyes. So it would make sense if there’s a connection. Best of luck, friend.

Ulano makes it, and there are distributors readily available. I buy where I am in Texas from Graphic Solutions Group, but there are many.

Thank you for the incredible advice on the screen printing technique. Some of the best and most accurate I could find on KZfaq. I have 3 questions; 1) I just bought the same Epson as yours and I'm wondering; the 3 black cartridges on the right, are they full or are they just there to tell the printer it can work? 2) For good opacity is it better to use a Matte Black or Photo cartridge? 3: I'm hesitating between tracing paper (vellum?) or transparent film? Thanks again and I hope you'll make lots more videos on screen printing. The following CMYK breakdown in 8 colours for example ;-) Best regards

I have not done much of that yet, but yes, you certainly can. Figure out how to cut through the ruby without cutting through the clear acetate beneath.
