A recent Swedish study found that tattoos caused a 21% increase in blood cancers and that the size of the tattoo had little effect on this percentage. I’ve also heard of people getting swollen lymph nodes as a reaction to the ink both with tattoos and SMP. My question is do you know the difference in ink composition and are SMP inks ‘safer’? Interested in possibly getting SMP in the future but as it’s a much smaller industry than the tattoo industry there’s little info on its safety, particularly over he long-term if you’re getting touch ups over the years.

It won't make much of a difference, it will be slightly lighter but shouldn't be too noticeable. This is just my preference and a starting point for anyone that wants to try it. After you get comfortable with it I am sure you will put your own stamp on it. For African - Caribbean I would start with 30 drops for a first session and then see if you want to go full black there after.

You need to get the full ingredient list from the manufacturer. If the ingredient is less than 1%, it will not be listed, even on the MSDS. Carbon tattoo inks can contain up to 50 ingredients. Please do your research before using a tattoo ink for SMP.
@hdhairlines
@hdhairlines Жыл бұрын
Really!? Then if this is the case the same would apply for "SMP" ink. In your opinion what is the difference between SMP ink and tattoo ink?
@katedawes7153
@katedawes7153 Жыл бұрын
@@hdhairlines Yes it does apply to SMP pigment as well. I have just been researching this and have talked to SMP pigment manufacturers about these ingedients not listed. I have only been looking at carbon black. The carbon used for both is the same, though quality will differ depending on the manufacturing and treatment process. It's the carrier that differs. For traditional tattoo inks, they contain other ingredients such as polymers for viscosity and pigment dispersement , pH modifiers, anti-foaming agents and wetting agents, alcohol, some even contained formaldehyde! The ingredients will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. It has only been in recent times that these ingredients and their affect on the body have been studied. SMP pigments contain an alcohol, glycerine (for viscosity), witch hazel (hamamelis) for diluting and some will contain menthol as well. So the carriers of SMP pigment does not contain the same chemicals as traditional inks. The scalp tissue is different to the skin of the rest of the body due to the amount of structures in the dermis and their functions. Also traditional tattooing causes a much greater degree of trauma to the skin than SMP which changes how the ink/pigment is stored within the dermis. (Macrophages and fibroblasts).
@hdhairlines
@hdhairlines Жыл бұрын
I think this is a debate that will go on for years but tattoo inks contain those same ingredients as carriers. Everything that you are saying here still isn't any solid proof to say they are different as each manufacturer will use different ingredients. Most black tattoo inks are made up of carbon, alcohol, water and some use witch hazel. It's madness to me because I have been using this ink for 5 years now on clients and only getting good results, many have been back for top ups so I have seen the healed results over time.

@@hdhairlines Yes it is a debate that will go on :) and tattoo inks can contain the same ingredients in their carriers however they also contain other chemicals as well, which is my point. As for using it on the scalp, if you have had success with it, great. I would just be careful training new artist with it.

Hi. I feel that I have to let you know that, unfortunately, the content regarding ingredients here, isn’t correct. There’s another ingredient in the Dynamic ink products that you haven’t mentioned. This is an Acrylic Polymer that acts as a binding agent. The purpose of this is to bind particles together in order to make them more stable in the skin. An original, true SMP ink won’t have any binding agent and this can result in more reactive degradation over time. Regards Carl
@hdhairlines
@hdhairlines Жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have since looked this up and you are correct it does have acrylic polymer as an ingredient that isn't listed on the bottle. So the dynamic ink will be more stable in the skin over a longer period of time is what you are saying?
@LaserExpert
@LaserExpert Жыл бұрын
@@hdhairlines Yes, although there are several factors that will affect this- Placement in the skin is one. Upper layer of the dermis, the papillary layer, will allow some of the ink particles to migrate through the basal layer to the epidermis and this will slough away. Also, superficial ink is degraded by UV exposure and other external, lifestyle, and environmental impacts. Needle size, ink dilution, and space between dots also play a part in retention. Our body sees ink particles as foreign objects and is constantly trying to remove it so clients with efficient immune systems and active lymphatic activity may also see faster fading. This added retention is good for clients in one respect, but bad in others. It won’t require as many top-ups, so over-saturation can be avoided but, in the case where fading, or removal in part, or whole, is required, it will mean many more sessions. Obviously, this would be a problem in the case of a botched, or bad procedure, but also for those just wanting a hairline adjustment, or fading dude to greying or further thinning. In my opinion, for the reasons above, the original inks without binding agents are best for SMP procedures and there are many of these out there - many with binders though, so worth checking the SDS (Safety Data Sheets) because, as we’d know, they don’t always list these on the bottle. Hope that all makes sense - just my opinion, of course🤗
@hdhairlines
@hdhairlines Жыл бұрын
@@LaserExpert I do appreciate that option but I would argue that when done correctly there is no need for ink without the binding agent. Clients want long lasting results and we still do see enough fading that it's not a problem for greying in my experience. I have also spoken first hand with tattoo ink companies and know for a fact that certain brands do sell to SMP companies wholesale to rebrand as SMP ink, so that is something to take into consideration that a lot of these "SMP ink" are just re packaged tattoo ink for the most part. For me dynamic is great for SMP as it give long lasting results and as you touched on this reduces the chances of over saturation which is one of the main reasons for SMP looking bad/botched down the road. I do really appreciate your insights on this maybe we can connect some time and talk more I always feel it's beneficial to get another perspective in this developing industry.

@@hdhairlines in an ideal world, that would be the perfect scenario, every time, with every tattoo, but I specialise in removal of SMP, as well as all other tattoo forms and I see clients for SMP removal, on an almost daily basis, for a wide range of reasons, not just botched jobs, and for treatment on procedures carried out by extremely skilled and experienced practitioners: Minor imperfections, hairlines too low, or not quite correct, and hairline adjustments for those who have aged since having it done is very common. Procedures that are too dark or fade unevenly is also a frequent problem, hair that has thinned revealing more ink, new transplants making the SMP look too obvious, those who no longer want to trim their hair so frequently and, one of the most common requests is by those who decide they simply don’t want it any more. Not to mention the botched jobs, and I’ve treated these by some of the best in the world. I treat clients who’ve had permanent body art tattoos, permanent makeup, and SMP, and in every case, they start out with no intention of having it removed. I see this from the perspective of both SMP practitioner, and we have 3 other cosmetic tattooists in our clinic, but also as a laser practitioner and the laser removal business is so big, because nothing stays the same - people change, their circumstances change, their opinions change, and they age - fashions change, tattoo ink integrity decreases, and for all of these reasons there’s a good chance that even a good tattoo will need reviewing so, unless there’s zero chance that they might want it faded, adjusted, or removed, and this would never be for 100% of clients, 100% of the time, I believe ink without binding agents are the best option.
@LaserExpert
@LaserExpert Жыл бұрын
@@hdhairlines yes, all SMP ink is ‘white label’, there is no clinic that is manufacturing their own ink and most of the time the practitioner/trainer has no real knowledge of the difference binding agents can have, or even that it’s an ingredient. If they do, they probably haven’t considered the downside. Yes, great to connect - I’ve been following you for some time - I’m a big fan of soft hairlines and your work with this is great👊🏻
