You used to be able to get coins from billing your phone number. Back in the day, you could get SIM cards for free. In the UK, Vodaphone used to have this “IOU” feature. You’d expect to have to top-up the card first, but back then you didn’t have to. I would call the IOU number, and I’d get something like £3/£5 for free. Obviously this money got spent on habbo hotel. Once I figured this worked, I was getting as many vodaphone sims as possible to keep my scam going. I think I single-handedly cost vodaphone thousands in IOU credit. Edit: pls don’t find me vodaphone:3

now to realize the person I am today, unfortunately and maybe fortunately habbo somehow educated me to being deceitful and have e keen eye for these type of opportunities in any market, I've also developed a huge interest in coding after the years. At 14y I ran a very lucrative phishing scam, at that time javascript was kind of unexplored and because I was a forum kid, someone share a new way to get passwords from users without having them log into an obvious website nor openning the console to place scripts into the page, which was already known by being a scam that time, it was simply by embedding code into an image and having that ran once user dragged and dropped the image into the source, you host the image or a "rare" item into a website and the other part was convincing that once dragged and password confirmed, they would have "glitched" the item of choice to their inventory, all that occured on habbo's own website so all privacy locks on and the url was the actual page of habbo, habbo.com, the user would've then sent that password to my database, which I would send to my operation aka me and my brother for us to log into the accounts by midnight while the owner was possibly not online (sleeping), and empty their accounts. I had multiple rares, casinos, giveways, I believe by the ban of my main account i've had accumulated roughly 5k coins with this operation, as 14yd, I had a rich friend that would literally go to the shopping mall and buy those coin tickets to redeem and compete wealth, but he couldn't buy enough, by the end of week I would aways had HC accounts for sale tons of mobis and c's of multiple accounts I've emptied out. I also ran videos in various fake channels showing the scam working, and I actually bought the rares to fake it that they appeared on the account afterwards, here is one of the videos i made i was able to found look this up on youtube, had one for coins and rares, very very lucrative " BUG Como Ganhar Raro Habbo BR/PT 2015 (ATUALIZADO)

also you are spot on when you said that the in game property had actual value and meaning, I remember having this thinking that if habbo mimicked life and life was like that, I just needed to find an edge to take advantage of people for my own personal good, of course later in life I discovered the real meaning of financial gain which would be through work and helping others, but by far that was my knowledge of the world overall, I think that the openness of the game and the social and currency aspect does create a social bond to the player that this is actually his character, stuff and progress, whatever made on that account was his, and like IRL you are given one character. This is why many players were addicted to the idea of it and such an irresponsible take on habbo and shame on them for long time not taking these issues and addressing them how they should've been addressed, I remember one friend telling me how sad and frustrating losing his account was, and I also had a lot of remorse for taking people's stuff, it was something that was definitely though, the idea of thinking of how would it be, when they log into their accounts by the morning, the feel of not seeing anything, losing it all. I remember often having nightmares of waking up and seeing that I myself was robbed this way, without knowing and waking up without my items, it was a weird feeling and weird era. but i'm glad i never drifted into something as such in my adult life, now that i have actual coding skills.

Your giveaway scheme in the note reminds me fondly of a series of novels called something like "The Adventures of the Great Brain" about a boy who would constantly get into and out of trouble while trying to run swindles on his friends and neighbors.

Dude, me and my cousin had a straight up ponzy scheme in disguise as a mafia org. We had people join in by gifting furniture, and then the people would go out and make other people gift furniture. We would then require 1+ furniture per person it went through, which made the person below the other one have to require more chairs making it harder for the lower ranking members to gain more members. The mafia stuff was just fluff, and other than a few blockings of official rooms every now and then, and the rooms we had made in a mafia theme, there wasn't much more than reputation... But damn, we were BIG. And we were 10 and 11 years old. We had so many rooms stacked with furniture, and they werent just trash furniture either, as people could pay extra rare furniture to rise in rank, trying to reach the upper echelons of the family. Shit was wild.

I'll admit, I was a falling furni scammer. Had a ridiculous amount of furniture at one point, I was like 12 with thousands of HC Sofas, Petal Floors, Dice, Teleporters. I didn't know how to cash out so I ended up just trading it for Runescape gold but not before I scammed people with that as well.

Confession time! About 15 years ago, I had a Habbo scam website. It was supposed to be a "Cheating Tool" that would give you free credits if you provided your login details. I've created a YT video on how to use the tool, that got over 150k views in about 3 years. Because only new players would fall for this trick (that had no items or credits), I had to come up with a solution to get the bigger fish. I have to say, it was quite genius: The website explained that you should never enter your account details on a random site, because you could get hacked. So it encouraged you to create a new Habbo account and use those details to login and use the "Cheating Tool". Users created a new account, tried logging in, and it returned an error something like 'Can't connect, try again later', and that was it. Here's the catch: I logged into these new Habbo accounts, and went straight to their account settings to get their email. In order to create a new Habbo account, you do need a unique email address. So, they created a new email account. In about 40% of the cases, the password of the new Habbo account matched the password of the new email account (because they were created within a minute apart). I logged into their email (mostly Hotmail) and went straight to account settings. When you create a new Hotmail account (might be the same for Gmail), you are asked to set a recovery email address, in most cases it would have their main email account. Because these email accounts were linked, I could recover the password of their main email account, get their Habbo login and reset the Habbo password to raid the account. All in all, this took more effort and a lower success rate. But oh boy, some accounts had 2K+ credits on them. Today something like this won't work, because you are not able to see the full recovery email anymore, they replace most characters by asterisks (*). I used to give all the stuff away, to make me feel less bad about the whole situation. In the end, I got perm banned after they found hacked items from 100+ users on my account.

I met a someone who ran a casino in habbo with rigged dice. He had a script that would let him pick the outcome of the dice before he rolled the in-game dice, and people would come in and gamble all day. He would pay out to get people hooked, but eventually with a high enough bet, he would clean them out. It was like odds vs evens where to loser paid the bet amount. He even had official “dealers”, I didn’t think much of it at the time because I was a kid lol.
