I want to like it. Hard to say without all the frame bars adjusted but the aft seat mount is inside the boat instead of out on the tube. Looks like you lose a foot of space & inside becomes even more cramped. The Slipstream looks to be a gray Star raft with an NSR frame. I think the better deal is the Outcast 13 - Aire Tributary raft with an NSR frame. Just my $0.02

Hi Chip, thanks for the comment. We feel the slipstream as exceeded all our expectations at the shop. It compares to the outcast very well, the big difference is the 6" drop stitch floor and foam topper for durability and stability when standing in the raft. The frame offers endless configurations and we think the aft seat and thigh brace leaves plenty of room for a third angler in the back.

Two questions: 1. How is that rocket box sling rigged in the back behind the dry box? The loops on one end look like it might come out to a D ring and the perimeter line, but what about the loops on the inside facing the water jug? Come to think of it, how’s that water jug secured? Another sling? 2. How does the rocket box and water jug interact with the Pacific River Bag? Looks like the bag is designed to take up the entire stern, but I can’t tell how you have it rigged here since there’s other stuff in the way.
@oregonpaddlesports1595
@oregonpaddlesports1595 Жыл бұрын
The rocketbox sling is looped on the long side through the top only, connected to the cross bar you can see. This probably isn't optima, the other rocket box is looped through both of the short sides, how it was designed. The water jug is inside another rocket box sling but it clearly needs a way to hold it in, probably another strap around it, good catch though. The Pacific River Bag is designed to take up the entire stern area, we were just trying to get creative with a smaller raft. The PRB has several straps to connect into the outer d rings, the floor and frame. Hopefully that answers all your questions.

Give the shop a call, we just got some in and we are happy to answer anymore questions you have about the boat. As far as rocks go, it is something to keep in mind but ours has had no problem with being used numerous times in our rental and demo fleet. I wouldn't recommend dragging it on rocks but overall it has proved durable.

I know a few people that swam there as teens back in the 90's and got pretty bad skin rashes. I go out once in awhile and kayak around. There are usually some squatters. If you head up the mountain from there you can get to some pretty high out looks. 3400 ft.

I love my Hobie Mirage iTrek 9 9'5" but I struggle to inflate it. I can hand pump the end of it. I have tried several electric pumps. the Hobie attachment doesn't fit all the way into the pumps. Any advice on what others are using?
@oregonpaddlesports1595
@oregonpaddlesports1595 Жыл бұрын
The electric pump that it comes with is not meant to inflate it to full operating pressure. Those pumps require that you top it off with the hand pump. On some boats, opening or closing the valve while inflating will lead to better results. If you wanted to inflate the boat fully without using a hand pump I would consider something like the shark pump www.oregonpaddlesports.com/outdoor-master-shark-ii-high-pressure-electric-pum.html you basically just plut it into the valve and set the PSI you would like it to reach. Be sure to have the valve close during inflation. This will ensure air doesn't come out when you unplug the pump.

I know that place! I spend a lot of time in that area. I've never taken my kayaks out there though. I once saw a river otter out there. Lots of salamanders and waterfowl as well. I really hope they don't remove the dam.
@oregonpaddlesports1595
@oregonpaddlesports1595 Жыл бұрын
It's truly a gem close to Eugene. I read on the USGS website that the average lifespan of an earthen dam is 50 years and this one is over 70 years old. If the dam were to fail there would be problems downstream in the little town of Horton. Fingers crossed they decide to fix it up instead of remove it.

Secondary stability how is it on the kestrel 120
@oregonpaddlesports1595
@oregonpaddlesports1595 Жыл бұрын
Compared to kayaks with hard chines this has less secondary stability. But this pays off with better performance when edging. With a tiny bit of practice the Kestrel can be a great starter boat for a paddler with a little sportier intentions.

I bought the Kokatat Supernova recently. I tried several different dry suits and also dry trousers/jacket combos. The Supernova was by far the most comfortable. The neoprene collar with a cinch tighten cord allows you to slacken it off or tighten it up as required. The neoprene is very soft too compared to the other suits and jackets I tried. Unless you are going to be in the water a lot, the latex neck gaskets of full dry suits are too uncomfortable IMO. I think water ingress on the wrists is much more of an issue anyhow, your head and neck will be above the water line almost entirely if you fall in (hopefully, otherwise you will be drowning!). Only downside is the colors suck (like most Kokatat gear). I got the orange one but the blue is just as bad (no offense!). I put comfort and practicality above how it looks though, I’d highly recommend the Supernova.

Great vid! For reference, what size suit is that? I've got a barrel chest, but not super tall, so trying to guess best size. How do the socks work? Looks like you have the bottom cinched up? Thought you were without the socks, but maybe sock are in your shoes? Looking for way to compensate for legs being too long for me :)
@oregonpaddlesports1595
@oregonpaddlesports1595 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy, I'm about 250 5'10". This Drysuit has feet in it so those are just stuffed into my Astral shoes. If I was going to be in the water for a while I would have some nice socks underneath. Kokatat offers "King" sizing which makes it a little wider and not quite as tall. I just kind of roll up the extra leg length and it works ok for me. We have a XXL in stock now we could ship.
