I had one and it did surprisingly well on trails and washes. Lots of torque for how small the engine is. The recurring recalls made me nervous and I traded it after 24k miles.

They truly made that engine one and done. They designed it to be a truly disposable item.. thanks ford.. way to design a expensive turd for us to buy..

I used to be adamantly against the concept of timing belts and valve adjustments in modern vehicles. Now my perspective is that servicing these components should be looked at as a restoration, bringing the engine back to factory specs and tolerances. This maintainable feature will prolong performance and efficiency over a longer period compared to an engine with timing chain that gets incrementally worse and out of spec as it ages. Of course the timing chain shouldn’t need to be replaced until many hundred thousands of miles, but when it is needed, it is expensive and the engine has likely been running tired for longer. In practice, few keep vehicles long enough to warrant multiple timing belt changes or a chain replacement.

As always Audi over complications in engineering. 1997 -2005 were their better years. Today it's nothing more than a shit show of terrible reliability and longevity. I went with Lexus and never looked back.

I had heard about CVT failures. After watching this video, it's obvious why these things fail. And this is why I just bought a Subaru with a 6 speed manual. The car manufacturers can keep their CVT's.

Is this still an issue on current generation vcm? I have a 22 Ridgeline. I was under the impression that as long as I don't run the truck in "eco" mode, the vcm won't be engaged. Thanks.

Yep looks like it's a deliberate fail engine ... I wouldn't touch eco anything ... It's all a bullshit agenda anyway ... Global warming my hairy arsehole ... I've used ford transit for twenty years but I wouldn't even look at anything past 2012 ... Go green go bust

Cylinder deactivation has always been an idiotic idea. The issue isn't engine size; it's the weight of the car. An LS V8 swapped vw bug gets three times the fuel economy as an 864 Cadillac running on 4 cylinders.

The mains are normally no problem on size, just them damn stupid rod bearing oil clearances which should only be up to .0007 max
@thorthunder3227
@thorthunder3227 16 сағат бұрын
Most are wrong bearings put onto the cranks and this holds true on grinds also. You have to know which bearing size, other than just if they are .010, etc.
@thorthunder3227
@thorthunder3227 16 сағат бұрын
There are A, B and C bearing sizes for the 2.4L engine. You have to know the standard diameter of your crank and the inner bore of the rod with cap on and also the thickness to have the necessary oil clearance of up to .0007 and to me no more than that. A clearance is from 2.00787 to 2.00811 and B from 2.00811 to 2.00834 and C is 2.00834 to 2.00858

so for all of you that you re saying that ford doesn t make good cars anymore, look at the other brands, have you seen the downfall of mercedes, bmw and audi? why don t u mention them, just because they re german? really? a bad car is a bad no mather the brand, and taking in consideration all these new restrictions we cand say that all cars are shit, vs cars from 2 decades ago, you all shit eaters taking smack in the comm section do ur research before writting non sense

the tehnology and humans destroyed newer engine, now they want low capacity, high horsepower, excellent gas mileage, and to never do an oil change on them if they can, people aren t thinking that with all these tehnology like start stop sistem for fuel economy there comes preventive maintenance also, engines nowadays are made by office workers an peoples reports, people that you can never satisfy enough so there will never be engines like there were made 20-30years ago

Really is a disposable engine. All this so we can sell dino oil. Its madness given all this complexity and points of failure can be replaced by a simple battery and electric motor with controller, just like an RC car. Super simple, reliable, no services required. Gee I wonder why they're fighting against it...

Very interesting to watch. My 2013 Mitsubishi Evolution X has a similar rear differential. It’s an open rear diff with what Mitsubishi calls “active yaw control system.” Torque vectoring pretty much for the rear wheels with an active center differential. It can send 100% of power to an individual real wheel during hard cornering. Great for the race track.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 19 сағат бұрын
Rear unit of Evo is actually quite different. Both wheels are powered mechanically via differential (which is missing here), so even if clutches are open - it's still awd car while this one is FWD then. In Evo, power goes through gearing, not just the clutches. Evo also cannot power just one rear wheel.

This is amazing. Never did I think I would see a manufacture outside England take one of the most reliable parts of a car and turn it into an overly complex mechanism that surely will be a high failure point. And will never make it to 200K+ mileage with minimum maintanance like a regular diff with a limited slip inside it.
