Rossi will forever be remembered as the greatest and if I'm not mistaken is the only rider to win a 2 stroke 500cc Moto GP championship and a 4 stroke gp championship and did it back to back..also in Rossi's day how good the rider was was more important then the bike (see Rossi's going to yamaha days) now motogp has become far more like F1 where who has the best vehicle is usually the one that wins hence why Marquez went to a team with a Ducati.. also in my opinion Rossi had to face much stiffer competition then marquez has.. these are just my opinions though and people are more than welcome to choose whoever they like as their goat MotoGP rider

Marquez and Rossi were never track rivals, Marquez won 6 championships to Rossi's 0 during their time together, Rossi was not in Marquez's league. As for chasing Rossi's championship count, I think Marquez has his eye more on Agostini the true King of MotoGP with 15 world championships. I doubt anyone will ever equal Agostini's 15 championships but he has 8 championships in the premier class so why settle for 7 and be equal 2nd with Rossi when 8 and equal first is so much better.

What happened to Marc in last 4 years? His drought of victories is even worse than Rossi at age of 40+. No disrespect to Marc, every rider has a prime and it will not last for ever. One can blame injuries and bike, but that is part and parcel of the game. A rider has to self preserve him, that is also one of the hallmark of the champion. Marc vs Rossi, this comparison cannot be done as they competed when Marc was at his prime and Rossi was a veteran to the sport. We can always speculate but they are two riders from two different era's who were best at their prime.
@Fizzzzzzy
@Fizzzzzzy 3 күн бұрын
@@DerivativesDocumentation You must be new to MotoGP to not know Marquez was out injured for 3 years, it was not like normal injury he was unable to race 2 years only to come back to a non competitive bike. We all saw how Rossi was riding a non competitive bike during his Ducati stint not winning a race in 2 years. It is like saying Quartararo can't ride any more even though the bike is not up to competing with the top bikes.

@@Fizzzzzzy Injuries are part of the Motogp. The riders who are abnormally aggressive are pro to injuries. Now during the sustained injury period one doesn't get victories it is part and parcel of the game. If one blames machinery for their demise it may not be always the right reason to blame. If you see Marquez till 2019, he was winning on Honda without much of trouble and later when he was out of the game, the machinery and winning formula became pale. This if's and buts always exist. What if Rossi continued with Honda after 2003, when Yamaha was not having competitive machine. What if Rossi didn't move to Ducati in 2011. What if Mick Doohan has not been injured, what happens to Rossi's carrier? What would happen to Marquez if Stoner never left the Honda by retiring early. We have to take it as it is what they have achieved. In that way, what if all satellite riders have same factory support not just machines. That is the nature of this sport. Marquez with his riding style was lucky to not get serious injuries till 2019. How many times he has escaped serious injuries.. there so much footage we see regularly on his spectacular crashes.

Rossi long career is associated not only by his victories but also very good at self preservation (i.e not getting injured). Marc is very pro to injuries. That's what the drought for last 4 years is going on. Marc is no long that invincible as it happens with any rider as they age. He is a strong contender but he has younger and proven competition in front of him. He can't take risk as he did till 2019. He knows very well that he is just injury away from potential retirement. We hope that is not the case and achieve his glory, but Rossi will be iconic and charismatic which I doubt if some one comes close to him will not get that. With 6 MotoGP championships Marc already should have lot of charisma as Rossi, which is not the case. Adding more titles may be good from number point of view but he is not going be as iconic in MotoGP as Rossi.

The great champion? Rosi has always taken the sports competition outside the circuits (see the public frictions with rivals, starting with Max Biagi). Arriving at Honda, he learned from Burgees (the one who made Doohan a multiple champion) how to control the team and stay by his side. When he felt that the pedestal he climbed on was shaking, he made all kinds of maneuvers to obstruct his opponents (he blamed the caciucui, damaged the dividing walls in the box, accused the competitors that if they don't let him pass, they do it to protect him on the title rival). Out of the desire to go down in history as the Italian champion with Ducati, he joined that team and in two years he obtained several temporary podiums, but he confused the technicians with all kinds of suggestions for technical solutions. Yes, Rosi is a great talent in two domains (motorcycling and PR), but he is nowhere near a messiah as seen by those who label him the "yellow tribe", maybe this says something about how he sees his loyal fans.

@@virgilioanlupas1459 Rossi did many things outside the race and in the race. His phycological warfare on other riders given him the edge at least in the first part of his career. Many liked that, who want to see bike rider adhering like a white collar employee in a corporate firm, which many of today's MotoGP do. Rossi's on track performance is far more cleaner than marc, who puts lives at risk when he drives like that. Marc has won a lot but he didn't get the recognition to that level because he was not so clean in many races and victories. People knew this, he doesn't respect the other riders on the track making atrocious moves more frequently. Nobody can dispute this. He is no doubt an out of the box, incredible talent, but that is limited to record books, will not have the same admiration as Rossi.

This commentator states that Bagnaia has proven that he can compete with Marquez at the same level. When did that take place, I must have been in a coma. Bagnaia has NEVER competed with the 93 AT the same level. MM on the Honda ( nuff said ) then on a year old Ducati IS NOT THE SAME LEVEL. Scary part for Pecco is that the year old Ducati is always right there on him. The same level will only apply for the FIRST time next year ( unless possibly Ducati throw some of Martin's parts into the Gresini garage )

Marc Márquez needs Ducati far more than Ducati needs him. Marquez's salary is a reflection of the man's ego and it's unfortunate that Ducati has adopted a similar calculated approach to the commercial side of MotoGP rather than their more sporting family/team ethos. I'm afraid that MotoGP is going in the same direction as F1 which is now a TV soap opera with overpaid 'stars' who wouldn't be out of place on 'love island' where races are decided behind closed doors by 'the stewards a lawyer or maybe even a Tv director or scriptwriter'. I hope the motorcycle Grand Prix remains a sport where the best riders compete for glory not Tv ratings.
