In Anny Chen's recital the six ordered pieces of Op. 67 are a fine set, with highlights and contrasting types. Her playing is elegant and insightful in mood-setting. The listener can be confused by Mendelssohn's 48 Songs Without Words. Yet Op. 67 played straight through is clear and works for me here.

A mastery interpretation of this deceivingly simple and yet utterly complex work. Every note is handled with great care and the entire piece is full of life. A mesmerizing performance.

I want everyone to notice how little pedal is being used throughout. It forces the pianist to instigate all phrasing using the hands and fingers to do all the work. If you think this is easy, just try playing it as well as she does. The genius of this music rests entirely on every single note and phrase in exactly the right arrangement with each other phrase. This is a superb performance of arguably one of the finest sonatas ever written by anybody. Are we getting it yet? I'm sure many have played this before and thought it an antique. But she is playing it on a Steinway D not some pianoforte of half the capable volume and this music is still capable of speaking to us right now. Sound music from a sane mind. That's what you get from Haydn as from nowhere else. Thanks and best
