Is it sad that we watch these to feel like we are back in normal times again?

Wow... great show, great music mix. A good mix of 60s and 70s, with even some 50s thrown in. This is much better than what other oldies stations were playing.
@dougo196221 күн бұрын
This is good, but his show intro themes aren't as good or interesting as the ones he used in the late 80s, which had more of a 60s feel. These are more generic-sounding, like any FM. Unfortunately, the last time I listened to Mike's show, was too focused on 70s and 80s, with no 60s. I know corporate radio forced his and other oldies shows to abandon 60s oldies, but it still isn't good for us true oldies listeners who started listening to these great national shows in the 80s.

So WHERE is the Jay Leno show?
@pfflyer3381Ай бұрын
More like carson, a sold 6 to 8 minutes! Not the letterman, 3 minutes of jokes,someone else wrote! ( like Jerry, without writers, hes not funny!) the rest, is him laughing at nothing, talking to paul and tapping his Carson pencils! Also,or something Steve Allen did 30+ years before! Dave is a better interviewer, if he likes the person! And like one of your friends, (dave)who, on the spot, is quick witted, thats all dave is. Jay is a Observational comedian! In our time, as stand up, only Rodney was better Who wrote most of their own stuff. Today late niters need a trump! Or A Leg, to flirt with! Or a male ellen! ( soap opera brains) Good thing Jay owned NBC😮.

I preferred Dick Bartley on a Saturday night, but I heard others listening to this enough on those nights that it's nice to hear.
@dougo196221 күн бұрын
I, too, use to prefer Bartley. I got into oldies in the mid-80s with his Solid Gold Saturday Nnight. But in the 1990s, he seemed to focus on the big hits, and stopped playing the lesser ones he use to play. I like Mike Harvey, who seems to have a lot more energy.
@timfurnier706121 күн бұрын
@@dougo1962 No, Dick always liked to play oddball songs. One of his last shows before retirement, he played a song I never heard before...I had to look it up. The guy who took over SHSN from him, Bob Worthington, played nothing but the hits. I knew EVERY WEEK he was going to play "Do You Love Me" not by the Contours who made a hit of it but by the Dave Clark Five, and every week I would hear "Windy" and "Happy Together". He ruined songs for me. I'll give you the energy thing, but Dick will always be my favorite. I think Mike is all so happy to compromise by playing newer songs outside of the "Oldies" genre, whereas Dick does it reluctantly.
@dougo196221 күн бұрын
@@timfurnier7061 That's true. Actually, I liked them both. What song did Dick play you had never heard?

This is before WTKR used the “This is CBS” template background for its local promos, that same year, until 1994, same thing with other CBS affiliates.

You can see why Jay beat Dave in the ratings. Jay generally just had more energy and brought it every night. Dave by the later years was phoning it in and it wasn't as good. Dave was better as an outsider at 12:30, but 11:30 at CBS he had the big job and big budgets. Jay you could tell tried hard every night, maybe his humor wasn't your style but he at least gave it his best every time he was out there..
