I learned that I do not like to take pictures with a phone, which made me stop looking for photographs in the city. @aows
@aows 10 күн бұрын
Yes! That's my experience as well. I find the phone very distracting, I love having a standalone camera. I still use my phone for photography every once in a while, of course, but not my favorite way to do it. That being said, I'm tempted to upgrade to a phone with a telephoto lens because compact cameras are dying and many haven't gotten any upgrades in years, while at the same time skyrocketing in price. I miss my RX100vii and its 200mm reach a lot, but there's no way I'm spending $1,400 on that camera. Looks like Panasonic has also given up with that kind of cameras a while ago. It's too bad.

Amazing photographs, they show a side of the city I wouldn't expect to see. Your channel is such a gold mine of inspiration. With the compact camera, do you find that the smaller sensor plus cropping to square format restricts you when it comes to printing the image at all?
@aows
@aows 10 күн бұрын
Thank you so much, glad you liked the pictures! So the file I get after cropping to square is around 3650x3650 pixels, or around 13.3MP, which is more than enough for what I do. My prints are usually no bigger than 8x8 inches, but that resolution should be enough for much larger ones. I print even smaller files, like the ones I get from my drone or my phone (both 12MP, down to 3000x3000 after the crop), and they look amazing as well. Again, this will depend on what kind of photography one does, and how much detail one needs.

@SOOCMAG
@SOOCMAG 12 күн бұрын
@@aows We've just seen them available with a small cashback - but still with a waiting time. And still expensive. You've already made a video about your image editing process. Has it changed a lot over time or has it only been slightly refined? For example, how much happens when you take the photo. I myself photographed quite flat for a long time and then later increased the contrast a lot in post-production, preferably in Capture One - the algorithm for Sony Raws seemed to me to be somehow more homogeneous compared to Adobe Lightroom. In the meantime, the difference no longer seems so great. Over time, I now shoot with high contrast and sometimes the jpg, which I may edit slightly, is enough for me. Of course, it depends on the goal. For a publication I still edit it, usually over days, because my own mood plays a big part in the result :) looking forward to more city walks from you. I like the transition from nature to urban and vice versa.

@aows
@aows 10 күн бұрын
@@SOOCMAG I've made a few small changes but it's still the same for the most part. I'm pretty sure that most of the time an "opinionated" JPG would be enough, but I still like to have the flexibility of the raw file. For example, I like to go back to old images and edit them in slightly different ways, and that's harder to do with a JPG.

I lived in San Francisco for many years, and people don't understand how cold summers can be. I know the weather forecast will say it's going to be in the 60s, but when the wind kicks up and the fog blows in, you are going to want a jacket. You can often spot visitors who aren't familiar with the weather -- they are walking across the Golden Gate Bridge in shorts and a souvenir fleece from somewhere in Fisherman's Wharf.
@aows

I had my first experience a few years ago when I photographed the golden gate bridge on a foggy night in late June. I got so cold I still remember the chills today, and I was wearing a coat! I am usually one of the last ones to get cold among family and friends, but here in the city I find myself wearing a winter hat quite often haha. You are right, when it gets windy (and that's almost every day) it gets to your bones with the humidity. I guess we'll be saving quite a bit of money on AC.
