I just read she's still alive, which is amazing since she already looked old here.

This new era of the weak, overly sensitive people has ruined a lot of jokes and fun. I guess this performance could no longer be staged on Broadway. The world has become poorer.

I'm very unfamiliar with Elaine Stritch and don't know the plot of Company..................but this woman's performance of "The Ladies Who Lunch" is like a hug for my soul.

In answer to some of the comments below about the change in Judy's voice from around 1950 onwards, I truly have to agree. She developed a maturity and a depth to her voice that no one had heard from her before. She was growing up and suddenly her voice took on a new dynamic dimension. It was perhaps a bit of a shock, but by 1950 Judy was no longer the typical MGM girl-next-door. Suddenly she was real !!! Vocally - The Judy of the 1940's could never have delivered, or bettered such an astounding performance or recording of "The Man That Got Away" from 1954 or later. The maturity in Judy's voice may not have been to everyone's taste to begin with but it has stood the test of time. Her live Carnagie Hall concert in 1961 is testiment to that. Judy out-lived her youth but died way too young, however she never gave us anything less than everything when she was able to give it. No matter what age she was, to the majority of the world she was the best and she literally gave us her life in real time. Judy's version of "Over The Rainbow" is truly the most sincere version ever recorded, and was written especially for her. There is absolutely no put down intended here to the many talented people who have recorded this timeless song. Sure, I get that Eva Cassidy, Patti LaBelle, Barbra Striesand, Pink, (and many others)...have lifted this song beautifully. No question. Judy however carried the baggage, and that's why she deserves the number one accolade for her song. From her first recordings as a very young child to her last in London UK at just 47...Her voice, (acting, dancing, comedy, personality, etc) at any age, is still as vital as it ever was! She was and remains to be a timless LEGEND !!

This clip is one of many A+ Judy & Mickey film scenes. I see others here wishing Judy & Mickey had gotten together as a couple in real life. They remained close friends. Judy wanted more but not Mickey. He could NOT have done her a bigger favor. Neither was good at marriage. Mickey could not remain faithful and struggled with gambling and substance addiction. Judy also was an addict and emotionally insecure. Romance/marriage would not have ended well.

I am CRAZY for this number with Baayork Lee, Margo Sappington and Donna McKechnie dancing it. That blew the roof off of the place. How would like to have been at the invited dress and see that? Michael Bennett outdid himself on that number. Someone below said (so perfectly) that it's what you think you look like in your head when you're drunk at an office party--but these three goddesses ARE that good in this number! Baayork is adorable and a ball of energy. Margo is so charismatic and charming that you want to eat her with a spoon (plus her hair at the end of the number!). And Donna McKechnie is the most brilliant Broadway dancer I've ever seen dance in my life. I can hardly take my eyes off of her when she dances. I don't know why that is, but seems to complete every move she's given and completes it with such style and flair. Plus always looked like a woman dancing--even when she was a young woman, and never a girl. And Michael Bennett's building a number with solos, trios, full company. He and Bob Avian surely knew how to craft a number to thrill an audience. I LOVE when the full company crosses center stage towards the end of the number. So grateful this is out in the world for others to see.

What a smart observation about McKechnie! I just saw this for the first time since I saw the number broadcast live at a Tony party in '69. Didn't see the show. But I did see her in Company a year or two later. And then, of course, in A Chorus Line.
