Aren't the PSU vents blocked since Dell uses a server style PSU which is smaller? I saw in another video, that user cut out the panel so the new PSU can exhaust out properly.

do you have any good recommendations for surge protectors? I've had lots of issues of when I am using my computer and the power in the outlet I am using goes out and surges a random component in my system. Luckily the components that I had been using during those surges weren't too expensive.

I just bought a similar Optiplex used and have the same situation regarding the power supply. I thought all desktop computers these days stuck to the ATX standard, but apparently not Dell for some reason. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Optiplex, and I'll look at the manual before buying.

About to try this on two optiplex 7050's with 400w EVGA's in order to run GTX 1060's in them. I'm assuming there weren't any more issues after the PSU upgrade? EDIT: Saw someone mention in the comments that their model needed a 24 pin to 6pin adapter for the motherboard. Just wanted to add that both of my 7050's are also 6 pin, so be sure to get the right adapter for your motherboard!

@AnthonyBerryman-sc3ew
@AnthonyBerryman-sc3ew 11 ай бұрын
@@paulshizzledizzle6180 Yeah, they both worked out pretty well but ended up with an odd issue on one. If I restart the computer, it restarts fine. But if I tell it to shut down, it wont boot afterwards. I have to pop the side of the case and pull the CMOS battery for it to boot again. Guessing its either a power supply or motherboard issue and seeing as how the two PSUs were brand new I'm guessing I may be stuck with a partially defective motherboard. (It was an Ebay refurb afterall.) And my 30 day return window to return the PSU's just closed 2 days ago so I'm just gonna live with it. Other than that small hiccup both computers work great, might even upgrade them to M.2 drives but even with the old fashioned SSD's they're quick little boxes. Stuffing all those extra cords in was a bit of a pain, but they should have a small empty area in the bottom front of the case where they can sit.

@@ponycarmike I stopped turning the computer off. lmao. I was under the assumption that it was a motherboard issue, but hearing someone else having the same issue makes me wonder if something else is going on. When I tried swapping power supplies I got the same issue so I dont think its a bad power supply. If you figure anything out let me know because I would really like to be able to turn that computer off at night! haha

Just wanted to drop a note that this video helped me immensely. I have an Optiplex 7060 MT (I found it in the garbage) i7 8700 32GB Ram RX 6600XT Corsair SF750 I'm about to install Batocera and couldn't be happier. Sidenote: I had a problem when I first installed the new power supply. The computer wouldn't boot. It would just power on an then after a few seconds power off. At this point I had to clear the cmos. I not only removed the battery, but I also moved the jumper on JMP1 to position 5-6 and left it there for about ten minutes. I them moved the jumper back to position 3-4 and reinserted the battery. After that, everything worked. Good luck yo everyone trying this. Big props to Umbrella

Please tell me more about this. I'm about to get an Optiplex 5040 SFF and I want to upgrade the PSU. I don't care if I have to lay the new PSU outside of the case, I just need to know how to make it work and not fry my motherboard in the process.
@flibri5508

@@josebaisi7090 the instructions for the 5040 are the same as for the computers in this video. literally all I needed to make it work for the 5040 is a 24 to 6 pin adapter instead of the 24 to 8 pin. After that, I just followed the video directions. Also, if you are getting a higher PSU you will likely not be able to fit it in the sff case .
