I love antigua, i was about to be defensive so i love how you opened the video saying crime is everywhere (it truly is) so kudos to you for making such an honest video with valuable tips. Really good advice.

Well done. You got robbed in Antigua. So sorry about that. I grew up in Antigua in the 60s 70s. Very little theft. Very little. We never really liked doors and we left our cars open windows and all. Young bored men are mostly thieves. There are more opportunities today but they are not enterprising people. I heard until recently people in Montserrat left doors open. Houses are hard to seal off in the tropics from theives. I rode horses with ticks 2 inches thick on their manes. Dogs ate mangoes but then again poor people had to eat fruits to survive. Actually, fruit stealing goes on alot. You look out your window and your avocado gone, your banana gone. As a white Canadian family growing up my mom was waiting for our banana tree to ripen, not knowing people ate green bananas as well. Funny. We lived in a huge old colonial style house up from the market and one day a swarm of very young boys ran through the house and stole glass drink bottles, clothes and anything they could handle. They were young like 10 11 years old. Our maid seemed to be more angry at them than my mother. She chased them right down. Oh, Antigua memories. Best place to grow up. So so much fun. Swimming, being outside. Antiguans are warm wonderful people. May it never change.

Antigua, 1970s. I was at that beach where Royalton is now. It was a secluded beach then. I was in the water with a lady I met at that beach. She had her purse on the beach. Out of nowhere a young man came out of the bush and grabbed her bag. She yelled out to him....please leave my tickets and passport and you know he listened and grabbed the wallet only and left the beach. True story. I guess this thief had a heart. Amazing. He moved like lighting. I grew up in Antigua. It's was so p

Do you have to rent a car to get around or is there a reliable taxi service? We'd love to see Barbuda like you have. Off the beaten track. We'd also love to explore the wetlands/mangroves. Any suggestions for whom we should contact? Thanks... a Canadian follower :)

I would strongly suggest if you write down the card numbers you do NOT put them in order, furthermore putting multiple card numbers down is best (where only one is the correct one) or even better having the digits of one card in 2 or 3 of the lines of cards noted earlier (where only you would know what the order is) so that you can read it if someone else were to acquire it (so they do not have access to more of your info)...

Have to wonder if the police are in on it...

Don't expect the police to help, they look after each other and really don't like the whites there.

How would banking and medical services work for a place with only 500 people since the hurricane?

The problem in Antigua its all those immigrant coming from around the Caribbean and come and do their bad habits. It happens all over Antigua and its sad cuz Antigua its beautiful i just those people i dont know why the government let them in. Antigua shouldn't have thieves i know things are getting worst since the covid. Immigration should regulate and police dont do much cuz they dont get pay that well.my husband and i we got rub our shak in our land and one care it worth more then what was in your bag. So thats how it goes when economy goes wrong and all taxes goes. High. People envy and thats whats going on.

I love Antigua. I've been holidaying there for close to thirty years with no trouble, except for one time when my daughter's sandals were stolen at Pigeon Point Beech. For all practical intents and purposes, the island is almost crime-free, except for the crazy drivers they have there. I was last there in September 2023 and had a wonderful time.

Could you unlock your phone once you got it back? One thing we've done is putting the leg of a chair through the handle of any bag. And pin the zipper closed with a diaper pin. Making it just a bit harder to grab and go, but i still am never far! Also, a waterproof bag is great. We're hoping to go to a resort at the east end. Is crime an issue out that way? Hi from southern Ontario!

Is unemployment and crime high there? Petty theft seems so silly if wanting to boost or maintain the islands tourism sector
I appreciated the TIPS on this video. I am from Toronto heading to Antigua/Barbuda soon to handle some stuff for a client. I am happy you were able to recover some of your stuff. Safe travels. Cheers!

So sorry to hear of your ordeal. Sadly, theft is everywhere, not just the islands. And the crooks prey on the vulnerable vacationers. Glad you got at least some of your things back. Sometimes the thieves will copy your keys, and when they visit your place to "return" your stuff, they now know where you live, and have a key to enter your premises, when your not there. Good advice on have to safe guard your belongings.
@trainerjulia89616 ай бұрын
Thank you for this heads up fortunately we did not lose any keys that would have been just awful Yes feeling so grateful that I got my phone in particular back
