You can do the exact same with pencil on paper, just put down the basic shapes really lightly, play with sizing, and erase. I do it all the time! 👩🎨❤️ no need to cry

This is terrible advice, you learn absolutely noting by tracing the anatomical form and then manipulating it digitally.

False!

She didn’t ask us to just blindly trace the outline of the reference girl though. That would be entirely unhelpful. Blocking out the shapes does help someone improve. As long as you’re using the shapes that help you to visualise the limbs in a 3D space. For some people drawing just ovals might help achieve the look they want to get, and then they add dimension later via shading etc. For me i personally use boxes. Blocking out the shapes helps you to be able to construct better as you continue practising. Helps u to understand proportion too. But yeah you are right to some extent, if you’re trying to learn proper anatomy (and not something simplified), this would be the longer (sort of unhelpful) route to take. Like if you’re trying to learn about the pelvic bone, pectoralis major etc But who’s stopping you from using a different photo reference (one without clothes on) so u can see the muscles and more complex forms.

Hi this works on almost every art program, including the free 🎉 ones. Highly recommend firealpaca for newbies, paint tool sai, clip studio paint or even gimp. Remember: photoshop won't be a monopoly unless we allow it to be!
