Marine accidentally domes old man with 40mm. Someone in the crowd: "Good God! They must have to kill a family member at boot camp or something!"

It's November Juliet. This comes from the NATO phonetic alphabet to indicate the acronym NJ. In the case of the US Marines of 1st Recon Bn it means 'niggah juice' which is what they call coffee.

The many comments by Marines and Army vets on the many clips around youtube say otherwise. They got actual Recon Marines who lived those events not just as advisors but as actors in the series. Rudy Reyes who played himself, Jeffrey Carizales and Eric Kocher who both played Marines from Assassin Company.

@@spirz4557 The one main criticism is that the book is largely written by Evan Wright who was a journalist embedded with these marines during the invasion. I'd say that's mostly valid as he wouldn't have incredibly intimate knowledge on some specifics in the Marine Corps, and likely just focused on the human aspects of everyone in the unit. Journalists also are often there for the story so may put particular emphasis or attention on things to weave into a story rather than leave them as convoluted as they likely were in real life. But from what I know talking to people involved in OIF and knowing some Marines today, the events of the show aren't entirely unbelievable. What the show gets really right is that basically everyone is in the Marines, so you get a clash of a ton of personalities all along for the ride of helping operate a multi billion dollar death machine, and that war is dumb as fuck in general.

@@queuedjar4578 There's also One Bullet Away by Lt. Nathaniel Fick which gives his own insights of the events.

He wasn't stupid, that was just Brad giving him shit for being from the midwest. The entire series, he's sleep deprived and hopped up on adrenaline and stimulants. At the end when he runs out of stimulants, his real personality comes out, and he's much quieter and more introverted, hence Brad notices that he hadn't said a word since getting back from Baghdad.
