Yes great days with Town Choice. Harry Cullen, Jimmy Alexander and myself, Jimmy Powells. Scottish Folk Group Championships December 1970 and three months later singing live on French TV on same programme as John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Joan Baez, Manitas de Plata. It all happened so quickly after forming mid 1970. We even had a secind spot on French TV Hogmanay programme 1971. Wonderful memories.

I saw them live at the Blaendyffryn hotel, near Llandysul after its release. I was only 14, a good gig, great backing band. He was quite a 'character' to say the least. What a blast from the past (my childhood in Wales). Even though I was around, I can't remember how it all happened, I thought maybe it was some sort of expensive self pressing, but looked on discogs and its released though CBS, so must have had backing. Shame it didn't take off, as good as other 80s rock, decent production too.

Farewell love me canny lass Farewell Whitby Town We’re away to the seas in our tall ships To hunt the whale fish down Farewell love our ship is rigged, we’re ready to be sailing So go inside and shut the door, the tide is quickly making Our Captain William Scoresby stands on the quarter deck And he tells the mate to make for sea and all his tackle check Our fiddler plays as we make for the sea and get the ship full rigged And the first mate walks the long foredeck and calls us worse than pigs It’s check your boats and davits too so this day ain’t your last And harpooneer when the big fish blows your shooting must be fast And when the purple blood does spout don’t let your stomach turn But get the whale alongside its blubber we will burn And we’ll trice its mighty jawbones to the foremast head And we’ll set the ship for Whitby Town for homeward we must head So get the kids to bed love, when they wake I’ll be gone For me don’t fear don’t shed no tear while I’m away from home Just keep a watch from West Cliff to see when we come past A tall ship through the misty morn with jawbones on the mast

I saw them in the 70's in the Black dog Inn in Havant. It was just GREAT. Had to go back to Holland - EP in my suitcase - and never saw them again.... Richard Digance was there too, playing parts of How the west was won. And I heard Rosie Hartman performing in Guildford. That was the best time of my life! 😁

Hi, I just discovered your Dad was the singer on my favourite TV ad, for McCain's Beefeater Crispy Grooves, mid 80s, he probably wrote the song too, it's a Cockney knees-up parody, a bit like Nellie The Elephant but as well as enjoying the ad I always thought to myself 'that guy has a great voice, I'd love to know who he was'. Happy Birthday to him!

Gilliansaker….wish you luck with it and hope your dad had a great 80th. What a fabulous voice he has…definitely at the top of the tree in my opinion. Best wishes to him and your family from the U.K. 😘

Another song that makes me regret getting rid of my vinyl many years ago. At least I had the sense to digitise my copies of Welcome To The Club and No Looking Back. I am so sorry for your loss, Charlotte. I hope it is a blessing that Richard touched the lives of millions of people even if most of those wouldn't have known his name. Can I share two of my favourite songs by Richard, both with lyrics by John Bettis. 'Best For Last' and 'As Long As There's Laughter'. The latter helped me through my wife's cancer a few years ago.
