@@rossandhisjpegs I’ve also been… underwhelmed by battery life. I understood the first one dying because I left it “on”, but the second one I tried to turn the meter “off” by putting it on a non-A value of the Aperture ring, but it still seemed like it chewed through the battery. 🤷‍♂️ at least it’s mechanical, so I can use it even without a battery. 😸

I've recently run out of mercury PX625 and tried other kinds in my Canonet QL17 G-III. It turned out, the Canonet is quite finicky when it comes to voltage. Whatever you use as a replacement, make sure it's 1.35V or your metering will be off by a lot!

Not a stupid question. If you shoot RAW images you can bring them into FUJI X RAW Studio on your computer, plug in your camera and add whatever recipe you like onto the RAW image. It’s kind of a backwards way of doing things but good to have.

Really fun video Ross. Your love of photography really comes through. I shoot on Fujifilm XE2. I kind of fell into to Minolta MC/MD when I purchased a Sigma 135 for Minolta MD from Goodwill (a charity thrift store in the US) for $15. I ended up buying a different version of the MC 28mm 3.5 from a Japanese shop on EBay for around $50. This is most fun lens that I own with the click apertures, a big circular hood and distance markings in ft/m. I also bought MD 45mm2.0 on EBay for $30. I like picture quality but the aperture ring is very sticky. I guess the lesson learned here is that you get what you pay for and it can be hit or miss going too cheap.

I'm finishing up my collection of Konica Hexanon AR lenses ( you should have a look at those, some amazingly sharp lenses there. Get the 40/1.8 and prepare to have your mind blown!) I want to pick up a Minolta MC 58/1.4 as well to compare it directly against my Konica Hexanon AR 57/1.4, just to see which one is better, if at all. I really like the 57/58mm focal length for some reason. I have a couple Helios 58/2, 44s as well and love them.

Ross, nice video! The S5IiI/X is an awesome camera to use with vintage lenses. Are you using the focus magnify feature on your S5IIX? That’s one of the awesome features of the camera. You can map it to your joystick and can specify the level of magnification . You can also specify the size of the focus box using the joystick and the rear control wheel. Also, focus peaking is retained when your image is magnified unlike on some other brands of cameras. I’ve literally tried every make of camera (except for Hasselblad) and, from my experience, Lumix has the best features for manual focusing with vintage lenses -even better than the Nikon Zf.

A lovely area, and wonderful photos! Cool to see examples of these lenses again but on full frame. The only vintage lenses I use are the Canon FD 80-200L and 50. Though I actually prefer the crop factor for the telephoto, for that extra reach for landscape, and then use the 50 more for portraits. But you're right, still definitely missing out on some of the extra character near the edge and increased depth of field. But, I also got them because the Fuji alternatives were like 5-10x the price haha... though your work proves that you don't need the newest sharpest fastest glass to create fantastic images.
