If that’s felpro printoseal then the RTV will cause leaks and issues overtime. The printoseal gaskets require zero RTV. -Mechanic of +20 years

i’m so glad i ran across this! i’m in the same situation right now and have no extra money for a bracket for my alternator so we are going to try running it without it until i can make enough to properly mount it to the heads. do you have any other recommendations for a bracket? or do you think drilling the head could possibly be an option?

Stopped watching this video after seeing the insane amount of rtv this guy put around the ports. If you like rtv getting into engine coolant and oil passages and causing damage then go ahead and use this video. That is way too much rtv dude and you are not supposed to put it around air intake with that type of gasket.
@daviddickinson6346

Way too much sealer , that will be obstructing your inlet flow, only use around water jackets and wrong torque sequence, dont do it like this guys.

@johnnymedd3899
@johnnymedd3899 11 ай бұрын
Anybody reading this this is a perfect example of how not to do it. The amount of silicone is massively too much. Also torque centre out in a spiral pattern, never opposite corners
@oxthreefifty708
@oxthreefifty708 11 ай бұрын
You are correct about the torque sequence being incorrect, but for everybody that is worried about the amount of silicone the intake manifold has zero leaks. So I still believe this is a very good example I will post the truck running soon
@johnnymedd3899
@johnnymedd3899 11 ай бұрын
Just because it's running with no leaks it doesn't mean it's right. You have big blobs of silicone risking being sucked into the cylinders
@user-yh6sd4bt7c
@user-yh6sd4bt7c 7 ай бұрын
@@johnnymedd3899 Your point is valid but they wont be sucked into the cylinders. If the excessive rtv breaks off it'll go into the pan and can get stick on the pickup screen of the oil pump and depending on how much is there could plug up the pickup screen. I agree he uses a little to much.
@johnnymedd9698
@johnnymedd9698 7 ай бұрын
@@user-yh6sd4bt7c sorry no, it definitely 100% can get into the cylinder. The light grey sealer he's using around the intake ports couldn't go anywhere other than into the heads. Small bits would make it past the valves into the cylinders but larger bits would probably get stuck inside the head. Either way, not good.
@user-yh6sd4bt7c
@user-yh6sd4bt7c 7 ай бұрын
@@johnnymedd9698 I see what your saying, it could theoretically get threw the valve train but realistically it just gets swept away by the oil and back into the pan or struck in a crevice. Ive personally never seen it go into a cylinder but then again if its small enough to get into the cylinder its also small enough to go back out threw the exhaust valve. Of cource if its ultra gray its good for about 700 deg F not sure what he was using, I guess it could melt in the combustion chamber, maybe? But either way, yes, to much rtv is not a good thing and should be used sparingly and I believe that was what your saying which I agree with as well. Way to much. Even if it doesnt get into the engine and stays on the gaskets and china wall its still a waist and not needed. Thanks for the response either way.

That hole you put the bolt in with rtv is the bypass. You will have to tap it and put a plug in. Then the thermostat needs three 1/8 holes drilled in the flat area to allow it to bypass otherwise you will have major issues
@oxthreefifty708
@oxthreefifty708 Жыл бұрын
I’m going to post it soon, but with the truck running and after driving it the hole didn’t leak but I know I need to plug it so I will. But the truck hasn’t overheated while running but I’ll keep in mind about the thermostat for future reference

With that much silicone, when you tighten down the bolts, it will squeeze in some of that towards the inside of the intake and exhaust side and may affect your performance due to being in the way of air flow. Just sayin.🤷🏼‍♂️

Wayyyyy!!! Too much RTV!!! You gonna end up with rtv in your cylinders and fallimg into the valley clogging up the drain openings and ultimately in you lump screen. It only takes enough to smash flat to the ends of the surfaces.

***UPDATE*** Do Not make my mistake. After chasing no oil pressure on a fresh 355. We pulled oil pump Melling HV55 to inspect. Nothing wrong. I told my son to check bottom of pan for maybe we forgot a rag or something. He comes up with Timing gear teeth. Pulled mains /looked good/ pulled t-cover only to find half the teeth missing on lower gear. Culprit was 2 cam galley plugs pushed out of the front of block got caught in middle of dbl roller and granaided sprocket. For the love of god please taps those cam 1/4 pipe plugs. Especially when using a HV pump. Lesson learned. Now i have to put the puzzle together and find all the teeth.

Never use RTV on Intake gaskets. It will cause premature leaks and failure. Some numb nuts did that on headgaskets and I had to fix it myself... even though it’s years later RTV isn’t permanent.

it only because you are essentially creating a gap between the intake gaskets and the heads, i did that shit for 13 years i recommend that you use a finger and just dab it on there. if you have a little of pitting in the head it will help fill in gaps but other than that it is really not needed. hopefully everything worked out.
