OHH BRother.... that little pin holds the wing?? wuuuu I though the connection looks like a U shape horizontally from one end and a thick horizontal rectangular bar goes into the middle of U shape bar from the other side and tighten up with 6-8 bolts

How do you like your Piper Tomahawk? I have a PA-28 140/160. Here in the states we call the tomahawk, the "TraumaHawk" Know for issues with it's stall/spin characteristics...National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) estimated that the Tomahawk's stall/spin accident rate was three to five times that of the Cessna 150/152. Having never flown one, I was curious how you like it and does it handle well?

It’s very easy to fly I simply maintain the correct speeds with weather conditions considered and you’ll never get surprised.

Gday, Rodney. I realise this is a few years down the track but I wanted to make an enquiry regarding your PA38. In the early 1980s, I attended the Gold Coast Aero Club flight school at Coolangatta where they ran a small number of aircraft including two Tomahawks, charlie golf india and papa alpha alpha. Could this be the same Tomahawk still flying after all these years, albeit beautifully restored? If memory serves, it was looking well-used the last time I saw it!

That's amazing I flew around 100hrs in CGI from YPPF in the early 2000's, as it was CGI that sparked my interest in the Tomahawk "ticking all my boxes", PAA was part of that fleet in Coolangatta for 1700hrs, and has been in 2 previous private caring hands since then, including the chief first officer for QANTAS for many years, we all restored essentially everything, most recently a fancy new engine with all the chrome bits "fully pimped" PAA is indeed a fortunate plane, Cheers

Absolutely lovely technical video. Explanation and camera angles are quite good. More close-ups would have been better. Different wings are fastened by different ways as I watched similar clips. Good educational data. Please do more on rigging on the cable controls as well. Thumbs up & subscribed.

great video but I'm curious why you kept hand on air brake lever rather than the cable release ?
@RodneyvandenBrink
@RodneyvandenBrink 3 жыл бұрын
I do seem to always keep my hand on the airbrakes during the critical low altitude segment of the aerotow, the reason for me is, in the event the cable breaks I have immediate control of my rate of descent.
@jamesfollon
@jamesfollon 3 жыл бұрын
@@RodneyvandenBrink Hi the reason I asked is because I was always taught that on either winch or aerotow to keep hand on the release in case of a wing drop or launch failure. loved the video, I'm hoping to fly the club Astir soon.

The images make that CS77 appear to be in astonishingly good nick internally for its age. Nice. Did your refurb the cockpit? Hours? Was IKS a former club machine, or privately owned prior to your purchase? And if not too probing a question, AUD$$,$$$$? Whilst no Discus or LS-8, as most who soloed on type as their initial single seater, I've a soft spot for the venerable CS77 regardless her (oxymoron alert) high speed L/D -by contemporary standards. Spacious, forgiving, easy local flyer which'll climb on the lightest lift or tightest bubble.

Good effort Rodney! couple of areas to work on if you want: 1. fly in straight lines 2. turn into the wind 3.work on thermalling to the left. It opens up more opportunities. ( I had this one belted into me in a janus A hen I was struggling. best lesson I ever got)

Many thanks, and really appreciate your observations, I'll take this on board and focus on these items umong many others, I'm hoping to do a 500km flight this season, and it would be nice to end up over the turn points and not down wind from them. :-)

I am glad I clicked on this video for the following reasons: 1) Great demo of a first flight in a single seat glider. 2) very smoothly flown tow from the low tow position. 3) You appear to be either a natural flyer or very experienced or both. 4) The Astir appears to be a joy to fly. I like what appears to be a very responsive aircraft with well balanced controls. I also like the control panel. Thanks for sharing.
