I would have love to see it after it finished baking, of course I’d like to see how flaky it was. I use butter and cold water or milk to make mine. They are very flaky Thanks for sharing, I will try your recipe. Also thank you for sharing the need to mound the apples.

Thank you muchly for sharing this recipe. I recently made my first successful pie crust after trying and failing nearly two decades ago and not trying since. Now, I've got nearly two decades more experience baking ( Mostly bread and brownies ) under my belt. It turned out tasty, however, it called for 1/2 lb ( two sticks ) of butter... In today's economic climate butter is freakishly expensive. I just took delivery of two ceramic 10 inch, deep dish pie plates and would love to use this recipe. I'm going to double the recipe, I'm also going to substitute homemade Oatmilk because I've switched to that for health reasons.. I've taken the liberty of doubling the recipe and converting it to Metric. For those like me that prefer to use weight instead of volume. For my 10 inch, deep dish pie plate ( Doubling it, and converting to Metric WMS ) 1) In large bowl mix 4 Cups/640 grams of all-purpose flour less 4 TBSP/32 grams and 2 tsp/14 grams of salt 2) In glass measuring cup measure 1 cup/215 grams ( Canola is what I'm using first time out. ) oil (plus 2 TBSP/27 grams of Oil ) 3) Add (measured separately) 1/2 cup/120 grams milk ( I'm substituting Oat milk WMS), mix well with fork 4) Pour liquids all at once into bowl with flour and salt. Stir with fork until blended and pastry cleans side of bowl. (If pastry seems dry, 1-2/13.5-27 grams TBSP of oil can be added.) 5) Gather pastry into a ball and divide roughly into halves. Roll halves into ball and flatten slightly. Place flattened round between two 15-inch lengths of waxed paper. Roll pastry 2 inches larger than inverted pie plate (you can turn paper with pastry and flip over to enable you to roll it out into a nice circle). Peel off top paper and replace. Flip over and peel off what was the bottom but is now the top paper. Place paper side up in pie plate. Peel off paper. Ease pastry loosely into plate If this helps others, then my effort is well spent.

What I would do is double the recipe (which makes three generous 9” crusts) and you would have enough for two ten “ crusts with some leftover to roll out prick and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake as a treat!

@@lindadorr4063 Hi Ms. Linda It turned out a treat. I just pulled the chicken pot pie out of the oven. instead of eggwash, I used 1 TBSP of maple syrup diluted with 2 TBSP of Oatmilk. The maple syrup /Oatmilk solution is a technique that i picked up from a vegan chef with his butternut squash rolls recipe. Then cracked on black pepper. The edge is rustic looking. As you can see, no recipe escapes being tweaked when I try it out. It smells delicious. I wish I could share a photo of it.

I had a total meltdown on my first attempt and threw the crust in the trash can.....vigorously. I am so totally intimidated with making pie crust. I had high hopes for this recipe. First time the crust completely felt apart when I tried to get it into the pie plate. Second time around I was more careful but the crust still fell apart. Some very bad words were said but I persevered. Darn it, this Thanksgiving I was going to make a stinking decent pie if it killed me. Well the pumpkin pie is done. We shall see today if the crust is eatable or it the whole thing falls apart. For years I have been trying to make a good pie crust but I have developed piecrustaphobia! I very much hope this pie turned out okay. I would really like to make a homemade apple pie that is eatable. I don't get it, I can make homemade croissants, all kinds of breads including ciabatta for Thanksgiving dinner. I've baked many pastries, cakes and breads etc...with success yet the pie crust continues to elude me :(

I would like to try this because I am the worst pie roller there is LOL. I was wondering if you could make up the equivalent of how much stuff to use in the recipe when you use a whole pound of lard or shortening so it is making a bunch able to make a few different pies. Excited to hear your reply back so I can do it

i have a fail-proof egg pie crust similar to this but instead of milk, i use ice water and add some sugar and less salt. but your technique about the wax paper has given me the confidence to make them years ago when i watched this video. and since then, i managed to bake so many pies, i've even been able sell them on the weekends for extra bucks, too! in my country people use the traditional pie crust recipe and when people try my pies they always comment about the unexpected but pleasant taste and texture of this particular crust. it really goes well with custard topped with meringue, you guys should try it!!!
