Terve! If you look through my video series, you’ll see the problems that these bikes encounter over time. There’s a few more, but my videos cover most of the issues. Also, most issues are quite easy to fix, some take more time and/or money, but it’s a very grateful bike to keep in good condition. In general, I’d look at how well the bike has been kept. Look for broken parts, scuffed parts, corrosion, non-standard parts, etc. If the bike is well kept, it’s probably a good buy. Good luck and feel free to ask more questions if you have any! Vauhtia!

@@alexarsot Hi Alex! Thanks for the kind words. I would highly recommend that you get the Haynes Manual for the F800GS. It’s a pretty decent manual (some of them can be a bit useless, but this one is good). Alternatively, you can get the BMW Workshop Manual, but I don’t know of a legit way of acquiring that one, so you might have to figure that one out by yourself. 😉 I do think the Haynes Manual is a great investment if you want to do your own servicing. С наружи то понятно..) Стучит двигатель (f800s), иногда глохнет, потерял в мощности.. Вот и пытаюсь понять.. Цепь да провисает.. Спасибо..)

@@moto8808 You will get lumpy running especially at low rpms. And more noise, as I said. The mechanical issue is that the cams will change their timing depending on whether the engine is accelerating or deceleration as the crank will put tension on different sides of the chain. I have no idea whether the chain tensioner can work against this or not, or how much it is able to supply tension. It’s not an adjuster, it just takes the tension off, and if the chain is worn, there’s a large chance that the tensioner is out of range to provide enough tension. However, I think a lumpy low rpm range (<1500 - 2000rpm) is a sign of that the cams are slightly out of phase. Good luck!

Sorry, but without watching the video, or crawling under the truck, or travelling back in time, I can’t answer for sure, but a very qualified guess is that no, it’s. Of for inspection. You’re probably better draining the hubs and putting new oil in. They’d probably like that anyway. Sorry for the vague answer.

I can’t really say, not only is it a very long time ago, but the service on this particular bike was done over several weeks and several parts were serviced. If we don’t count removing the panels and all that, then I think you could do it in one day, but it all depends on how detailed you want to be. I tend to double and triple check everything, so it takes a lot longer. Removing the cams and all that isn’t a time consuming job, but putting them back carefully can be. The act of actually pulling the chain through could be very quick if you’ve got a friend or two to help (one to spin the wheel and one each to hold each end of the chain). Similar thing with the panels, if you’ve removed the panels and the air box several times, then you’ll do it quite quickly, if it’s the first time and you want to double check everything, then it’ll take longer. I’m also assuming you’d like to check the valve clearances before closing it all up. So all in all, with dedication and all the tools and spares handy, you should be able to roll the bike in to a garage on a Saturday morning and roll it back out with a new cam chain on Sunday evening, and that’s with not being too hasty, but still keeping tabs of everything and doing a good job. Sorry I can’t be more precise. Good luck!

Apologies for the late reply! Did you check the chain's tension when you had the valve clearances checked? I would have guessed that a bad cam chain would have revealed itself at this point? You should definitely check it before replacing it, at least so you know you're fixing an actual problem. 12k miles seems a bit low for this problem to surface. And I agree with that there's something wrong; in the pursuit for lightness they seem to have skimped a bit too much on the cam chain size. Apart from taking a lot of time and being a bit nerve-racking the process isn't too complicated. Good luck and thanks for the comment. 😎👍🏻

@@JockeSelin Unfortunately I took the bike to a shop for the valve clearances, so I wasn't there when they had the cover off. They didn't mention anything about the chain though, but I can't be sure whether they really looked at it properly. I ordered a new tensioner which should arrive tomorrow, see if that helps. Thought about going for the manual tensioner but decided to give the OEM one a chance. Just gotta hope that this year the Finnish summer lasts for a bit longer than the usual 2 weeks so I'll have some time with the bike outside the garage 😅

@@macgarymusic Let's hope the new tensioner cures the rough sound. These engines do rattle a bit at start up and when the engine oil is warm, so it might not be anything too bad. It would be a shame if you had to miss on the wonderful summer riding due to bike repairs/maintenance. Fingers crossed for you! 🤞🏻🙂🤞🏻

@@JockeSelin update: Tensioner didn't make any difference. Took the bike to a shop for diagnostics, and got a call from them yesterday. They said that the issue is the radiator fan. The fan motor has somehow seized, causing it to draw excessive current when the ecu is trying in vein to run it, which means that other electric components don't get enough power. This results in poor injection/ignition, causing the bike to run poorly and thus the chain rattles because it's not running smoothly. Never would've suspected such an issue. New fan should arrive next week, still a little sceptical about the whole thing but we'll see after I get it back.

@@macgarymusic Thanks for the update, I sure appreciate it and I'm sure the community does too. I've heard of the fans seizing before, in fact my friend's one did. However, I would have thought that the ECU would simply have disabled it if it draws too much power. Having said that, the F800 electrical system is know for requiring a healthy amount of power. A bad battery won't allow the bike to run at all. On Caz's bike we suspected the faulty fuel pump drew too much power and thus the ECU disabled the heated grips. Healthy angry pixies is a must for this bike. Also, a diagnostics tool, such as the GS-911 will not only allow you to read the fault codes, it also allows you to cycle all sort of electrical features on and off, such as the fan. Yes, you can click a check-box in the UI and turn the fan on. Much easier than running the bike hot to see if the fan starts. Anyway, I hope the new fan cures your problems and that you'll be out tearing up the tarmac and gravel roads in no time! 🤟🏻😎🤘🏻

"The original chain"? Was it installed in the factory? I don't know, I don't know the history of the bike, but I would guess it was the original chain. Or do you mean if it was a BMW chain we purchased to replace the stretched one? Yes, it was ordered from BMW. Hey! I don’t really know how to answer this. Ummm… so, ummmm, in the workshop manuals, I think there’s a way to test the stator, but I’m not 100% sure as I’ve never had to do it. I know the rectifier can break, but it’s a far less common issue. If you don’t mind spending the money, then putting in a new stator is a good investment for reliability. Hope it works out!

@@Joksa999 Checking the plugs is cheap but tedious - the air box is not simple to take off. However, I would get the stator first, and if it still is not fixed, then the regulator. Also, try searching for the BMW workshop manual and/or buy the Haynes Manual, it might explain how to test the stator and/or the regulator/rectifier. Good luck!

I know what you mean, and I agree with you, this truck will not be Bling Bling, however, at the same time it can’t look like a service vehicle. We are hoping to travel to places where military/police/fire vehicles might not be seen as a friendly thing, so we need to make it look like a civilian vehicle, but at the same time, it can’t stand out when parked in the forest. Hey, glad to have you along! Wunderbar! Yes, the Unimog is a wonderful vehicle, not fast, but very capable. Luckily we are not in a rush. Maybe in the future we’ll prioritise upgrading the drivetrain. Modern turbo, intercooler, fuel pump upgrades and faster drivetrain. Overdrive would be lovely, but it’s very expensive. I’ve not taken the F800GS fork legs out completely and I can’t recall the procedure in the manual, but usually fork rebuilds require some special tools. If you have the tools it’s not difficult. Sometimes just tedious and messy. Tools can be clamps, holders, extra long sockets, seal guides and such. If you want to fully rebuild the F800GS forks, I’d recommend reading the Haynes or BMW workshop manual - or if there’s a video. To change the oil or springs, you don’t need to go any further than the video. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

For my work, 0.5mm would be OK. 0.1mm is way more than I need. Also, I'm highlighting mental health because I don't want it to be a taboo subject for all my viewers. Yeah, spot on. These are very temporary wires including the connectors. Whenever I get to do the real wiring, I’ll make sure that there’s no possibility of shorting. Keep in mind that there’s only power in the wire when operating the winch. I’m considering changing the rope for wire. Initially I wanted the rope for lower weight and flexibility, but in hindsight I think wire would be better as we only need some 3-4 metres and wire is thinner (for ~2000kg) and most importantly it’s UV resistant. Thinner wire would mean it would spool better. We will see where we end up. One step at a time. Thanks for your comment. 😎👍🏻

There will not be a deboxification vijeo of this welder. There's plenty of better welder people out there that can do that stuff. I think it's a bit early to reveal what welder it is primarily because I'm still making friends with it and secondarily because this purchase has already had some issues, so mentioning the name/model might be taken as a recommendation. And I'm definitely not ready to recommend it - at least not yet. It might prove a good workhorse and if that's the case, I'm more than happy to recommend it onwards. I hope you understand. 🙂👍🏻

Sorry for the later reply. I don't recall what the odometer reading was at the time of change, and I can't remember what it's now either without going out to check, but the bike is still working fine. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Later models have a ventilated flywheel (and maybe other components), I believe it came with the facelift model, which I think is 2013. I believe this change was a huge improvement, but whether it solved the issue completely, I don’t know.
