Do you mean we have to add new testcases to the previous ones to find new bugs? Could you please provide an example? Thanks,
@randallrice8727

Hi Shawn, Sorry for my delayed response! Thanks for your question. Yes, we need to add new cases because existing tests become more confirmatory, such as regression tests. I may have a set of tests that yield 5 defects the first time I run them, but those bugs get fixed (hopefully), so when I run that same set of tests again, they should all pass. That's great for regression, but I may still have the feeling that more bugs are there (I'm sure they are), so I create more tests that are perhaps more "devious" to find some of those other bugs. This is a never-ending process, even after release because no software is perfect. Put another way, just when you get good at finding one type of defect, new ones seem to emerge.

Wow, someone who knows about software quality control. I had a look at your web site, you cover things such as running a software inspection meeting. I spent 2 years doing research into software quality control. I was shocked by the fact that while doing my computing degree and working as a developer, nobody taught me about effective quality control methods. Methods that are over 30 years old and used in only a few companies.

I just bought the Ron Patton book and am enrolled in a 45 day course which isnt costing all that much. Its only $750 for a live course. Also they get you ready for an interview and try to place you also because they are a recruiting company as well. Lets see how it works out.
