Shouldn't have cut the free page. Just curl it back and lift it off the board. Tuck the hinge beneath, and glue it over the hinge.

When looking at your site, there are multiple size options for the single stitched binder tape. How do you know which is the correct size to purchase? Can a larger size be cut down for smaller books?

Great video however, it seems to me that the information about the flyleaf should come in the beginning of the video.

Anyone know when the cheesecloth comes in? I've watched this video and the older one on the same topic, both produced by Demco, and both videos say to have cheesecloth and then never tell you to use it. Why does the cheesecloth need to sit there watching me fix the book?
@DEMCOinc11 ай бұрын
The cheesecloth is used to carefully remove excess adhesive since it collects it rather than smears it. You see it being used around the 1:11 mark, but it isn't mentioned by name. We will take note of that for future productions. Thank you for catching that.

When you slide the page when tipping-in there is going to be a excess of glue that is going to get on the other pages, are you using anything to protect the other sheets from the glue, so that the pages do not stick together?
@DEMCOinc Жыл бұрын
Yes! It is important to place a sheet of waxed paper on each side of the page you are repairing. -KB

OH MY GOD THANK YOU!!!!!! I got a copy of Frank Lloyd Wright's A Testament and it's breaking at the hinges front and back. I have been so upset and the repair cost $100 - $250+/- to get it professionally done. Again THANK YOU for this video it may have saved a very beautiful and important volume!

Why did you position the back sheet to it's short a half inch? And how come that half inch is now magically there when you apply the cover? These instructions don't make sense.
@michaelmistaken2863 Жыл бұрын
I think the back sheet, and most of the front, are rigid plastic. The spine and gutter (the thin strip on the front/back of the book that attaches the rigid front/back sheet to the spine) uses a thinner flexible plastic material. I think this avoids damage to the binding as the book is opened and flexed during normal use.

My whole point of watching this video is to do a repair to an old book. However, I gotta say the narrator is excellent. Now I'm wondering where I can hear this same narrator on other videos. Maybe I have heard this narrator before?
