Great interview. She mentions the storyboard artist in the last answer. I’m a big fan of the series. One thing that has always stroke me in Jem was precisely the immense talent and vision of whoever was doing the storyboards. Although the animation was subpar and probably low budget to tell this story, boy did they have to work with a crazy creative storyboard artist: the visuals were always high design and ambitious and unfortunately the poor animation production could not do it justice. To me Jem stands today as one of the few Japanese anime shows who had a real designer as storyboard artist. I cannot think of any other similar example. Whoever that was this person must have moved on to an amazing career in cinema or advertising. If anyone knows? Thanks for the video ❤

Christy! Aren't your files available in a "Ask Christy Volume Files"-something rahter still available on the deeper, gem-encrusted un-earthed depths of the Internet? I read them way back around 1999 and it was available through google from Memory. "Make a Wish", Try, Think and Feel the Spirit and DELVE DEEP into the Synergystic Mainframe OF the Holographic World of the Jem Fandom-Mania still available from THAt time. Love you for creating one of my First-Ever Heroines. XXXERIC.

Thank you, that was fascinating. Im a Jem fan from the 80s and have been collecting as an adult for years and years but I thought only real differences were between the years but there are so many variations! It does explain why all 3 of my Shana dolls have different hairlines tho lol

I'd never heard the name Gisela Voss associated with the Jem Universe before I saw this Video, but after hearing her story, background and contribution is a welcome "gem" for this fanboy, and Gisela's Marketing Prowess cannot be denied, not only for Jem's initial success, but landscaping a blueprint for any future Jem re-iteration. She is very smart, shrewd without being cunning and just all-round brilliant. Totally Radical in my opinion xxxJ*.

This was awesome. I've always loved and admired the doll box art and thought that whichever artist responsible was incredible. Thanks for shining the spotlight on another component of the talent responsible for making JEM so successful. And can I say how wonderful it was to see the real life model for Rio. Thank you sharing these guests and moments of Jem Con 2023 to us fans who were not able to attend. Excellent Moderation.

What a lineup! Townsend Coleman was so sweet and charming. I can listen to Christy Marx's talk for hours about her work, life, etc. And what wonderful detailed insights into storyboards and bts process in animation with Rick Hoberg.

I hate to say this....... But the absolute dismal amount of views there are for the basically official fan club/meeting center for this 80s cartoon is making me realize: it's over. No one cares about Jem. It isn't Transformers or G.I. Joe or even Care Bears. It's on the level of Foofur, or James Bond Jr. A "Hey, I remember that" and that's as far as it goes. It's a memory. And it's a memory that's fading......fast. And it makes me very, very sad.

There's an easy way to change that. The whole series is available on my channel (Hasbro have already put in their copyright claim, so they let it stand), show that to someone and see what happens.

Joelle Schroeck (Joelle Dunn) sang "me and my friends are Jem girls" in the commercials. Britta Phillips sang the Jem Girls cartoon theme song. Dig up some of those commercials on KZfaq and compare the singing to the Jem Girls theme song. Their voices are different. You can also Google Joelle Schroek Jem, there's a link to an interview with her and she talks about singing in the Jem Girls commercials but doesn't mention the theme song.

Here's one of the Jem Girls commercials: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pd1inMR8tbCce6c.html Clearly a different singing voice than the Jem Girls cartoon theme song.

Thank you! So many people have insisted to me that it's not Britta singing the show theme, but it's obviously her.
