I mostly use my Android phone with Google Maps and for a backup my Garmin GPS unit. I also can read paper maps, if the electronics go down you need the paper maps and a compass is also a good idea. I carry weapons for protection as well.

Your van is looking great and looks like a nice setup. I have a Ford Econoline DIY RV conversion van with a living space of 10'x6'. I did the whole interior with wood 1x3 Furing strips. I carry 40 gals fresh water, a composting toilet with a sit-down shower, an RO water filter system, a hot water heating unit, a diesel heater, LED lighting, two 2000W AC200P Bluetti power banks with solar roof panels 600W. Induction cooking system plus all the usual kitchen appliances. A 30-day minimum food supply. I clean my camping equipment that's used for food with a spray bottle of white vinegar mixed with water, and paper towels to wipe them down. So far so good. I also have my hunting and fishing equipment and if near water I can camp for months without moving. Good luck and have fun in the great outdoors, Mike currently in Oregon.

Aren't prices incredible? Watch your pennies. One of the most striking things about AK to me was how quiet it was. Do you find it a noiseless environment as well? I thought I heard my heart beating when I was in the woods.

Nah man, up here there is always noises in the forest. Water dripping, birds chirping, bugs and mosquitos all over and the breeze. I find the desert to be much more quiet and lonely. This area in Alaska feels much more alive and thriving

If you have any money at all, please invest in Dr. BRONNER instead of dish soap. You can even use it outside bc it's biodegradable and it gets everything clean - including your teeth!
