I just read her book (Don't Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You) and then listened to her whole catalog again and appreciated it on another level. I've probably listened to this song 20 times this week.

Guitarist here. Joni had mild polio as a child and it affected her hand strength. To compensate she either adopted, modified, or invented open tunings that allowed her to play her compositions.

Goes without saying I love Lu and love Doug's guitar, but I can't help but focus on the bass, too. Love the bass lines being put down.

It's love's illusions I recall. I really don't know love at all... Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say I love you right out loud. Dreams and schemes and circus clowns, I've looked at love that way. But now friends are saying I'm acting strange... Something's lost and something's gained from living everyday. It's life's illusions I recall, oh, I really don't know life at all. 1:19pm February 2, 2024

The Flower Children era was a time when the Environmental Movement was at a peak. We could sure use some of that momentum now with all this forest devastation, climate change, species eradication, water pollution in streams, oceans, etc. Somehow we need to restore the Environmental Movement back to what it once was!
