I only saw this video for the first time a few weeks ago and I had same response as you. It was just amazing. I was speechless at the whole performance and her voice was just beautiful. Imagine how amazing it would have been to be there that night and see this live. Just wow !

I remember hearing this song for the first time in the club. I knew right away it was Madonna and I kept requesting that song over and over for a few months every time I went out. I remember paying djs to play it more than a few times throughout the night. Lol. I remember being really excited by this song, which I hadnt been for a min back then. Not saying I wasn't into everything Madonna did, but this song, in particular, just made me super happy. It was like having a piece of the old Madonna back, even though it was a new sound, if that makes sence. Anyway, I also remember that the video matched my lifestyle back then. A bunch of my girlfriends and I would always end up at the female strip clubs and the end of the night when we went out clubbing. We always had a blast. That was just a really good time in my life back then. Thanks for the memories ladies. 😁

I was, once again, in my car when I heard this song for the first time. It was a premiere play in our radio stations and I remember thinking this is a sound I’ve never heard before. It sounded so fresh and unexpected. I remember wanting to hear it right away again but I guess in 2000 we didn’t have such streaming services we do have now. Anyway, Music became one of her biggest hits ever worldwide and it was played on radio stations and clubs all the time. The video is so funny and includes Sasha Baron Cohen’s character Ali G. Madonna was pregnant while filming this, and you can see how they tried to hide it with clothes and picture angles.

I love this album! This is really one to listen all the way through. I hope you will eventually. I personally prefer the albumstracks to the singles, maybe because the first two singles were sooo overplayed at the time. Huge album, huge singles. This, the first single obviously was a major #1 hit pretty much everywhere in the world, including the US where it topped the charts for 4 weeks and was one of the biggest hits of the year. Madonna won plenty of awards for it as well. Another great era for her and at the end she finally went on tour again, playing mostly songs from Music and Ray Of Light with some classics thrown in. Madonna was heavily pregnant with her second child Rocco when she filmed this video, hence little dancing and loads of sitting. haha

I don’t know if I ever listened to this entire album but for some reason, not sure why, I just never cared for this song!

Although this Music song and video is the official lead off from this 2000 album, her single and video of American Pie that preceded this Music video, became a prelude to this era when she decided to include it as a bonus track in some international release of this album. I think in this Music video she appeared to satirize her folksy image from the American Pie video images where she came on looking as a small town homecoming queen, but this time she portrayed the ironic image of a rich, bossy, street smart, nightclub patronizing urban cowgirl who’s at ease riding in a fancy stretch limo, sipping champagne, going to a strip joint, having fun, wearing fur, jewelry similar to the fashion worn by successful rappers, generously tipping the dancers, and taking some of them into her limo for a joy ride. Indeed in this Music era she would successfully adapt country music vibe and create the image of a Midwestern cowgirl with a swagger. The common denominator for all the characters in this video-was that they couldn’t resist dancing to the beat of Music. As her lyrics in Music attest…”Music makes the people come together/Music, mix the bourgeoisie and the rebel…”. Ironically, she has always been a rebellious artist bucking the establishment, but here she now portrays a wealthy bourgeois music promoter (middle class entrepreneur)) who’s comfortable in the company of the proletariat (the lowly working class) both of whom have historically conflicting interests. I think Mirwais Ahmadzai, who is French, who collaborated with Madonna in this album had probably influenced her in writing this line. Madonna said it was usually male rap artists who had all the fun, making videos all in the clubs, partying in limos etc. and she wanted to do a play on that with herself and her friends as the main characters. New era, new Madonna! 24 years before 'Cowboy Carter' there was Madonna's 'Music'. The album has some very interesting country influences. This song was a complete musical turn after the spiritual 'Ray of Light', musically and artistically, mainly because of producer Mirwais, who is a French Avant-garde musician. His music sounds still modern these days, same for this song. She was pregnant from Rocco, but they covered it with a big coat and M sitting behind a table etc. Her next video 'Don't tell me' is my favorite, The no singles 'Paradise, not for me' and 'Gone' are gems, together with the ORIGINAL version of ' What it feels like for a girl', the video version is different, but great too. Be prepared for some surprises.

Yeh when she did this video they did a take on the stereotypical rap videos etc . Doing reversals with the females doin what the males do pimping it up , strip clubs etc . I think they wanted to do more but was abit limited cause she was pregnant . When you do the video what it feels like for a girl make sure you listen to the original version as well completely different . Maybe do a double the video and then the original version from the album (orignal doesn’t have a video which is ashame )

Amazing album. However Madonna didn’t do as many videos for her songs on this album as on “ray of light” One of the best songs on the album is “Gone” . No video to this song , but please react to this live version (link below) she sang on her “drowned world tour”. Her singing live in this is haunting and vocally amazing ; so much more than the album version even. Its lyrics have so much meaning and resonance to her life at that time and everyone can probably relate to the lyrics in some form.
