GPS Corrections are necessary for accuracy, so there is a Rover Receiver on top of the cab, while a Base Receiver is located elsewhere on site.

The accuracy is based on the quality and amount of satellites the receivers are seeing. In an area not seeing many satellites with a lot of tree coverage, there is much less accuracy than the opposite. In general, it can be accurate down to a quarter inch.

The issue with Leica is basically their controllers with small processors and memory and their software Captivate needs much more features: explode imported lines...etc

I currently use a trimble nomad and LM80 desktop software. What is the best uodated version of that? I stake foundations and shoot elevations. Need to be able to pring elevations/site plans.

The current model equivalent would be Fieldlink and it is typically paired within the RTS series.

The sensors themselves are shockproof and waterproof, while being in a stainless steel bracket that is stuck to the machine via industrial grade 3M double sided tape. There is always a chance for damage, however in this case it's quite low.

I have used Trimble for 30 odd years now. Used Leica twice for a year each time. Quickly moved back to Trimble. Topcon was my very first instrument. The Japanese were always world leaders in electronics.

The biggest factor for working under trees is the total satellite reception. The more satellite constellations that are enabled, the longer the system will hold a fixed position. Hope this helps!

This was beautifully done,however was wondering..are your targets which u are using for a resection on the ground...what if the retro target is on a building ? How does that work with tje prism...I am new to these robotic stations

I'd use Leica for lots of work that's going to be post-processed in the office or legal work. Trimble for construction. And topcon if I was poor and had no other choice. I really do like how much better Leica is when dealing with obstructions to the prism and keeping lock on prisms.

Trimble correction broadcast goes also over cell (IBSS).

All of these systems are capable of receiving corrections via cell modem. In larger countries with less reference station network density it is more common to use a local gps base station transmitting corrections over radio. Leica also offers local base station transmitting corrections over the internet to reduce cost of reference network access, and to avoid interference from other radio spectrum devices.

Hey brother nice tutorial btw! Im learning how to use the total station and have a question if you dont mind. If im laying out a foundation and need to set the building corner off the property pins, would i make a new job under the same project and place the property pins under asbuilt?After that my understanding is from there i would go to layout lines, draw a line from points, then click over to see my X and Y and use my measurements from the plan. Appreciate the video man not alot of videos for these machines out there!

Yes! You should be able to measure your property pins under as-built, then go to the "Sketching" menu and draw in your building corner using the angle and distance from the plans. There are multiple ways to do this as well. Glad to help.

That intermitent noise of Topcon is annoying. You use that im the connection site and people will be distracted thereby its a hazard, it can be the cause of accident. Topcon should know better

It is an audible signal that the instrument is tracking the prism. It comes from the factory turned on. It can be turned off very easily on the display of the gun.

The GR-5 is the same age as the Hiper V, same technology different housing. So therefore it has the same accuracy.

Would that added cab angle during the first horizontal calibration make the body sensor inaccurate at all? Or is this cal just between the boom and stick sensors?

Each section for the calibration only does certain sensor(s) at a time. The 2D Sensor (or body sensor) has an independent calibration that can be done or redone anytime in the settings.

You can see the antennas of trimble and topcoat are much larger - they have gps data processing hardware. The leica is different with the gps processing hardware in the yellow gps box next to the panel/screen.

I used Leica TS16 with Leica Captivate to build Expedia headquarters working for GLY Construction, and I used Trimble S7 with Trimble Access with Skanska to build Microsoft's headquarters. Trimble is WAY better. Never used Topcon though.

Using a rotating laser is a function that the system has, not a requirement. You can "bench" (or zero) off of the cutting edge of the bucket, OR catch a rotating laser to "bench" (or zero).

Hello, Sir I'm interested in buying ICON ICR80 total station, and need to run "Layout Objects" application to import IFC files, and layout construction objects (footings, columns, etc.). May question please, will (ICON ICR80 total station) be enough or I have to buy also the tablet e.g. CC80 in order to run the Layout Objects application? Thank you so much.

You almost certainly will need to have a tablet with the iCON software to use all of the features you would want to layout with a Leica Total Station.
