Kizik shoes are fabulous at the airport. They are hands free and very easy to take off and put on going through security. And since I will wash them a couple days before I go on a trip and then save them for the trip, I feel confident that they won’t stink when I take them off on the plane. I have issues with claustrophobia and, for whatever reason, if I take my shoes off on the plane it helps me feel less confined. I also put my check my carry on so that my backpack can be put in the overhead compartment. Now I have all that space open for my legs and it’s been wonderful ever since.

While I strongly agree with all these tips, I thing a very important one is missing. One that I discovered 4 years ago and changed my traveling life (and I travel a lot) : look for magnetic wheels !!! Those magnetic wheels will always stay straight and no energy is lost with wheels trying to turn. A gentle push on my spinner can let it roll straight for an easy 10 meters. It is amazing how much less energy is needed to push such a spinner. I don't know which brands offer this feature, mine is a Travelpro and I would never trade it for anything without magnetic wheels. 😊

I have a reusable grocery tote from Amazon comes in a tiny 2x3 bag. I use it a lot in Hawaii grocery shopping but you can use it for your jacket to use as a pillow. I am normally warm in plane but always have a light jacket for travel m.

Love this and the comments! A few other ideas for y'all. 1-collect stronger carry out bags from places like Garbanzo's/Tokyo Joes to pack BPA locking food containers in to eat during flights (eg Snapware, doesn't allow food to squish; also great for leftover meals); 2-different sized zip lock baggies (we rent houses/apts and often have leftovers to take to next destination); 3-strong suction cup hooks in case there's not enough hanging space in bathroom; 4-nylon waterproof beach blanket that packs small; 5-write your contact info on bright card stock, laminate, place inside luggage in case lost. You can also leave copy of itinerary for luggage to find you; 6-a backpack carry-on with several outside zippered pockets - designate each pocket for specifics so you know where everything is (Kroser Laptop Backpack; love the look but zippers slide easily, fasten with anti-theft zipper pulls); 7-Travelon Anti-Theft East West Cross-Body Bag that can fit into backpack or checked-in luggage; 8-two reusable grocery bags for groceries, beach, shopping; 9-thread interior security clothing straps through anything you can, and if you have a zippered pocket inside suitcase use a small lock to secure it to keep theft to a minimum; 11-headlamp for dark streets or if electricity goes out; 12-corkscrew for wine and safety at night; 12-space saver bag for dirty clothes; 13-a few dryer sheets to keep luggage fresh; 14-travel sized PooSpray for rooms that need help; 15-pack necessities and anything you need for 2-3 days in carry-on in case luggage is lost; 16-the last 3 trips we've taken, things have been stolen between check-in and arrival; 17-colored hair ties; 18-goody baggy that's saved our vacations (electrolytes, aspirin, tylenol, anti-histimine, Bragg's ACV for upset stomach and sunburn, aloe vera for sunburn); 18-mosquito repellant; 19-Lifestraw bottles; 20-laundry pods. We have ongoing Xcel spread sheets of items to take for specific destinations (Beach, Europe, Skiing). The lists don't change much but allows us to see what's missing and file report with airlines/travel insurance company asap. Happy Travels!

I travel places that there are limited spaces that you can do a fast wash in the sink, but how do you hang them up to dry. I have found these neat traveling traveling hangers. They come in a set of 12 from Amazon (pretty colors). They fold up in to a very small space and be tucked any where. I also pack a small piece of cord. I tie one end to the shower head and and the other end to the robe hook. This way if when they drip it will be in the tub. I also get a small bag of snap clips (found in a dollar store) Found I can't travel without them. Lots of uses. I don't know if these would be allowed for flying but I used them for many things in a room.

Keep your money and passports on you at all times. I use a thin travelon that I keep crossbody the whole flight. You can aslo use those neck passport holders too. No flight attendant has scolded me for it.

I wouldn't depend on those clips right on the belt as they are easily unlocked. You haven't visited Asia yet if you did and know you wouldn't even bother bags where the clasps come off right at the bag!

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie haha sooo I was correct hahaha. Ok yeah so not everywhere you are at risk but I was a local by birth and we got pickpocketed with a slash to my mum's bag when we were on our way to a place. She lost her bangles she wore at her wedding. So you Can only Imagine those clasps will be loosened easily anywhere in a crowded area/ trains overnight trains.

I disagree about not speaking to TSA it your 1st time or 100th time traveling alway ask questions about your carry-on bag when at security. the officer should instruct you on what to do with your bags ie what stays in and what to take out, which items of clothing to remove before walking through the body scanner

I think wheel configuration may be a bit of personal preference. I went with the Travelpro crew versapack 2 wheeler for the extra internal space it gave me in the 20 inch model. It has held up well for the past 4 years, including the rough terrain around the Philippines. I also like that it gives me some personal space behind me.

*WARNING!* Do NOT do this! Having that info on your phone is a real risk!! Instead take HALF a picture, and then take the other HALF pic and send it to a trusted friend or relative. Putting the two pics together in an emergency will not be hard, and neither phone being stolen would reveal your full details!

Great idea, Laurie! I realized there were toiletry items that needed to get tossed, replaced or replenished (in reusable containers). Also, car travel allows for no limits on liquids that flights do not...that makes a difference what I have had pre-packed. ❤
