Great video thanks my V40 has been making a similar hollow/wobble sound on OS for months and now I’ve seen your video I did have both springs replaced (cracked) before this started so maybe it’s the shock absorber although it passed MOT and handles ok. It’s not drop links as garage has had car on ramp shaker plates and are stumped they said just wait until it goes really bad 😂
@jimmykneesall10 күн бұрын
Cheers buddy. It was a strange one on our car. Our local garage mechanic also said at the time that the bushes, arms, etc were all fine, but pointed out that the shock was the likely culprit. Hi, asking for advice do u think it would be possible for the oil sump to get dented and damaged and have a leak with the under tray on? Or do u think the undertray would have to be off?
@jimmykneesall25 күн бұрын
Hello mate. Honestly, I think these undertrays are a nuisance. They might stop some dirt getting onto the bottom of the engine, but that's about it. I think they get in the way of everything you want to get access to. I think my video is a case in point, especially with those spinning screws. If it's made of thin plastic, it ain't going to be strong enough to stop any dents. A proper metal sump guard would do that job, as that's what they're designed for. So, to answer your question, I reckon dents would occur if it was on or off, simply because of how thin and flexible the plastics are. Do you know if it's definitely the sump where your leak is coming from?
@82seabiscuit25 күн бұрын
@@jimmykneesall yep. I was told by a mechanic who recently serviced it for a different problem that the sump was damaged and dented. I hadn't had any issues before it's last service. But since the oil pressure lamp comes on intermittently. He said it's weird that they would not have seen the damage at the service and that it's coincidence the error is only since then. The engine was lifted at service to change the cam belt. Just wondering if it could have been dropped as I definitely haven't run over anything. All a bit puzzling and frustrating.

Holy shit! I've failed my tüv (mot) because the steering rack was moist with oil. The shop said they'd probably have to replace the whole steering gear (or rack?), so i bought a used replacement with the plan on doing it myself. If it would just be a bad o-ring, i'll be able to fix'er up tomorrow, no big repair needed. Because that point (where the steering column is) is the only moist place on it, which made me doubt that the whole thing is shot. I will definetely look into it and look if that is the leaking spot tomorrow and replace the o-ring if it is. That would be a dream! Thanks for the video, gave me an idea what the problem could be. If it is, i'll donate a fiver to your patreon or whatever, it would be so much money and work saved!

people need to do the job with the engine cold as heat from the engine makes the shaft expand and sticks. i actually sprayed wd40 all over the front and let it soak for a few days then same again and in 2 weeks the gear shifts were ok. if you dont have a drill a pen or pencil wrapped with sandpaper will do and the hole can be gently cleaned out. grease it and all will be well.

Thank you pal. I will have to admit that we got lucky. As things stand though, the new O-ring pairing is still holding up and there are no new drips of power steering fluid on our drive! 🤣 To be fair, £600 wouldn't be far off what I'd have expected the garage to charge, considering parts and labour. It's not actually the most difficult job in the world though. It's all just the removal of pipes, nuts and bolts. I replaced the one on my Jaguar XJ6 X300 a number of years ago. It was leaking very, very badly. As long as you can get the car high enough off the floor (even on axle stands), you'll have room. A set of decent spanners and sockets, plus a big waterproof sheet to catch the mess, and you'll be away! 😁
