Cheers mate, managed to represent my country at the Commonwealth games but unfortunately didn't make it past the 1st round of competition. After the cut from this fight I couldn't spar for a while to let it heal then as the team flew to Ireland for the pre games training camp I caught covid which delayed my trip. Once in Ireland it was covid recovery time then on to Birmingham where I drew the gold medal favorite first up which wasn't ideal considering the crap prep. Regardless I had a great time there. Since the games I fought at my national championships where I made it through to the final but was cut again in the semi final so the doctor wouldn't clear me to fight in the final. Had a couple good wins in between, so all in all 2022 wasn't the greatest year. Cut twice, tore a ligament in my foot in NZ training camp last month and caught covid 3 times so it was hard to get any consistency. 2023 will hopefully be a better year, foot is almost recovered and the next NZ training camp for me next month to work on qualifying for the Paris Olympics next year 👍

@@ep8u I'll be keep my eyes open for you. I'm sorry to hear about all the delays. I caught covid as well and unfortunately it spured on some health issuses that I didn't know I had, so my time in the ring has officially come to a close. It sounds like you have been able to keep a good head on you about things tho, witch is always a good thing. Hofuly your training camp for the Olympics goes well, 2023 going to be your year mate! I can feel it in my bones!

@static jack thankyou mate, just hoping to stay injury free. It'll also be nice if I don't get covid again 🤣. Sorry to hear about your health issues, that's tuff to deal with I'm sure. The recovery from covid has been tricky each time, especially lung capacity and it saps so much energy. Thankfully there hasn't seemed to be any long term issues.

@@ep8u your super lucky, it ran me threw in the one go :/ but it also restarted my love for teaching and so I'm trying to start a new gaming channel that I can use to launch other platforms for educational content like: dark or strange history, odd things humans have done for entertainment, and the exstreams that some humans have managed to attain. Who knows maybe some time in the next ten years ill be making a video on your boxing style and how new boxers are using it to strengthen their own game. 🤭 Also you should post a new video for your viewers, like a reaction video or something to let your followers get to know you more. I'm sure that even your ring side fans would be excited for a inside look at how you see things or how your training for the next fight. Even somthing like blog shorts durring your down time would probly grow your channel along side of your correr. Do you know who your opponent is supose to be for Paris next year is that not something you've been told yet?
@ep8u
@ep8u Жыл бұрын
@static jack that's awesome brother, one door shuts and another opens 👍 No idea who'll be there in Paris. The main focus this year is gaining selection for the NZ team which is a process in itself. The team is named towards the end of the year and through the year and early next year will be a series of qualifying tournaments. So being selected for team NZ doesn't mean we go, we also have to earn enough qualifying points to be allowed at the Olympics. The downside is that Oceania which is our region is deemed not good enough for us to qualify through so we can't use tournaments in our region to gain points so we have to travel outside of our region which is very costly and with very little funding it makes it tricky. It will be an interesting year, gain selection then hopefully manage to get to enough tournaments to earn points then hopefully get approved by the Olympic committee.

onyx you looked so clean at the start of this fight! It looked like he was almost trying for those back of the head shots :/. He also looked concerned when you hit him with that massive hook toward the end of the first round. I was upset that you didnt get to see the fight threw but I'm also glad that you didn't, he didnt seam to want to trade with you and when he did like I said it looked like he was almost looking to loop his shot at the back of your head. His jab was deff causing you problems. From what I could see you were out working him easily and finding some excellent corners to throw from. He was landing off and on, tho had this kept going that inside body hook would have leveled him. 8 of 10! Only because your head movement slowed out in the 2nd. I'm already excited to see how much more of an improvement you make in the next bout, homie you've grown leaps and bounds between this one and your last, you can clearly see it in your movements and how crisp that jab is looking! Your a future world champ onyx! You got this!

Gonna have to start calling you onyx "hard scoped" lye with how you was locking on with those outside uppercuts. Homies head looked like he was answering "yes" to every question on the pop quiz you gave. 🥴 also had you up by 2 point in Thailand 🙄 but is what is it. Loved watching you work that jab mate. Outstanding work! Keep it up!😤

Thankyou brother, yep I heard coach call it a couple times then once I spotted the opening let it fly. It caught him nice and he just couldn't seem to adjust to it so I kept firing them in. Myself and my team felt the same way about Thailand rounds 2 and 3 thought we had them but like you said it is what it is. Always going to be hard to beat the home fighter, really enjoyed the experience over there though 🥊🥊

@@ep8u I'm glad to hear that! Tbh I'm land locked where I live right now, and thinking about Thailand has me thinking about the ocean. I miss it dearly. I miss training on the beach and useing the shifting sand to gain better confidence in my head movement since you cant really rely on your feet. :/ ahhhhhh lol been a frustrating couple of days hear. Its been snowing heavily off and on, witch has limited my gym opportunities to 0. For like 6 weeks now. And my punching bag doesnt want to hit back when I try to spar with it😭.

@@ep8u kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q-ClotBz0r2zpac.html also maybe saw somthing with your back foot pivot and how you plant for uppercuts? It may help it may not help, but I think this with how you load for a uppercut mixed with his step for a under slip would give the same kinda stopping power in both your uppercut as a counter and your inside step to cross counter. You plant similar to him I noticed and thought if you hadn't heard of him, as a supporter and a fan, I'd share him with you. I hope you get some cool ideas from this, and if you dont atleast I've helped keep this legends memory alive lol. Can't wait for your next fight!

Finly got a chance to watch this one al the way threw. Owwwwww you had been so close in round two to putting him down. Also thought for a moment you were about to hit him with a cross after you had framed him durring the third but it looked like you decided against it. Good work man. Weird side note/question. Was there any reason you set on a 3 rythem for most the fight? Blue didnt seam to be able to track your stepping jab very well and I noticed after every two youd almost every time would fallow the third with a cross, left step or right pivot, then reset after instead of firing again on his open gard. Obviously there are things you can't see or understand with out being the one to throw the punch, I was just wondering because it seemed like you kept waiting for a specific strike he never really threw.

Thankyou brother, to be honest the plan was to work more angles and up the numbers on the inside. Unfortunately life happens and weight wasn't quite on point so I had a heavy cut the night before and the morning of this fight. Happy with the result but the performance was only part the way there and I guess I just wasn't able to utilize all of the openings that were there. I should get another crack at him at the nationals just after I get back from Thailand.
