I might be too cynical….but could the retirement have been planned to give Lewis a chance to win the 2024 British GP? George didn’t really sound as disappointed as he should have been.

Sir Lewis passed George on lap 18, they double stacked the cars on lap 28 and the car was retired on lap 33 or 34 when george wasnt a front runner so with that information I think you can answer your question. George can't manage tyres like Lewis.

He was sorta cool really. Not happy yeah sure. Obviously. He is still doing a good job though. Maybe next year might be a big improvement. His team mate is off to Ferrari. We just have to be patient. Wait and watch. Drivers and teams. Mercedes had some great years. Now Red Bull with Max mostly. However Mclaren and Ferrari have picked up a bit this year. I still enjoy F1.

Lewis was already in front of George and so was max. So the situation would’ve been the same except for George fighting lando if George went on to hards, which he likely would’ve

Hamilton had this same issue at Spain in 2022. He lost 4th place and almost lost another to Bottas but managed to finished because it happened with like 5 laps to go. Unfortunately for Russell.

I really wish he had been able to stay in this race until the end. It would have made those last laps all the more exciting with George up there toward the front fighting while Max was charging through on the hards. Having to retire the car at home after starting on pole would be brutal too.

I highly doubt Merc would waste a double points finish just to help Lewis, who is jumping teams next year, win. George's engine wasn't getting enough coolant, and blown engines aren't cheap to replace.
