The stone balls are weights for throwing nets to catch animals. The bronze dodecahedrons are for weaving wires and then compressing them into decorative chains

I believe the balls are "Juicer Balls". Push down and roll over fruit and you get fruit juice. Better than drinking water all the time. I believe the dodecahedrons are "Lots". Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. It's for making decisions by chance like rolling the dice. The knobs at the corners helps make it easier to tell which face is facing up on uneven surfaces.

Why is it that when archeologists don't understand something, the go-to is always "It could be of religious, ritual, or spiritual significance?"

Platonic solids are relegated to forbidden Archeology. Truth is Archeology and Science hides the truth from the greater public. Be careful what you know. The whos and the whys are a secret that is closely guarded by the true powers that be, and they're not who you think.

The black room I think was done that way to make the frescos stand out, they showed up better with a black background and then also for the lamps but with the lamps burning in a dark room the light from them would illuminate the frescos

They don't want the world knowing the 1st Emperors of China were black of African desent. It will mess up their history. Look at the terracotta army, all the heads gone so you can't see their black features. The truth cannot be contained forever.

"That Change Everything" (from the title) - no, the discoveries do not change everything. They're neat, add to our knowledge of that era of the Roman culture in that region, and are worth the mention. But they don't change everything we know about Pompeii.

The very fact that most houses in Pompeii contained a lararium is proof enough that religious practices were not confined to public places and temples. Domestic worship was the norm and not an exotic exception.

Always overwrought conjecture re religious significance attached to everything. Amphorae obviously stored upside down in what may or may not be a chapel room. It is presumptive to say this room is sacred in any way. And if it ever was, it was last used for storage. People were no more fervently religious than they are now. People are people, at any time in history. Too much conjecture.
@TheDanEdwards7 күн бұрын
"People were no more fervently religious than they are now." - and yet if you go from place to place today, you can easily observe that some local cultures express more religiosity than others. And while magical thinking is part of us, some cultures give into that more than others.

Most houses in the Roman civilisation had a domestic shrine. It’s not a stretch to see this room with niches could have been a shrine.
