Hey, so why does the float arm at full go higher than the roof if the gas tank? Once installed it seems it would only send 22 ohms at most, and will the gass guage know that that is full or will it read 3/4 full when it actually full?. Should I bend the arm? Thanks.

The bushings are impregnated with oil when manufactured but you can apply a small amount of light engine oil or electric motor lubricating oil. It doesn't take much; you don't want it to get on the brushes or commutator. Josh

Actually, the dial behind the cruise section is the automatic headlight sensor. You adjust how much daylight the eye sees and it will automatically turn the headlights on earlier or later in the evening depending on how much light the eye senses. Controlling how sensitive the Autronic Eye is was performed by rotating the outer ring on the headlight knob. This is what raised and lowered the bright lights depending on oncoming traffic. There was also another headlight feature which your Eldo appears to not have which is strange. The Twilight Sentinel which kept the headlights on for a preset amount of time after the car was turned off. That dial was on the lower dash under the wiper switch. Kind of near the top switch. Very nice looking car! Love Eldorados! The Fleetwood also had the lower stainless trim, albeit, the Fleetwood had fender skirts. I’d have to do some looking, but I believe the Eldorado script is too high up? On the Fleetwood, it is only an inch or so above the top of the rocker molding. Very interesting!
@Caddydaddy16 күн бұрын
You would think after 42 years plus I would know everything. I knew the Fleetwood trim was similar. I just said that because of it being a two door, I have never really thought about not having skirts and thank you for that attention to detail in addition when I got the car, the letters were all screwed up and they had put them in the wrong place so we had to follow with that location, I did not know how that switched worked for the headlights and that is much appreciated. The Caddy Daddy can learn new tricks appreciate you thank you John.

Josh how much trans fluid should i put in after a service ? thanks for all you do !
@johncoyle412528 күн бұрын
It can vary depending on things like if you drained the torque converter or not. The service manual for your year and model will give the amount for a full service. I usually estimate the amount I drained out, then refill with that amount of fluid. Start the engine and check the level and add more as necessary. Remember that the level will read low when the transmission is cold so don't overfill it. Josh

Hello friend, how are you, do you have a link to install the distributor for the 390 cadillac 1960?
@johncoyle4125Ай бұрын
We don't have a video, but it is like any other GM distributor; I'm sure there is a video out there. When doing the job with the engine on TDC #1 the contact on the rotor should be in a position slightly clockwise from pointing directly to the rear of the car; that is #1 on the cap. The window on the side of the cap should be towards the driver's side with the oiler pointed slightly forward. The most difficult part is getting the oil pump drive to engage with the distributor shaft. A long screwdriver will allow you to turn the pump drive slightly so it will align with the distributor. Josh

Do you know how to reassemble a soleinod for a 6 way seat for a 1957 Cadillac? There are 5 parts, a ball bearing, spring and two small metal parts, o e with a notch.
My Cadillac tail light rockets on my 2001 PT Cruiser are losing the red (from sun fading them over 20 years) in the middle of the light, and now they appear as white lights instead of red, which is obviously required by law. I'm a disabled unemployable senior lady who lives extremely below poverty level (13k) and currently in my car with no AC too. ( long story, living nightmare.) i need a cheap way to paint (?) the translucent plastic red again so I don't get a ticket. Have any advice for this old lady? Yhe lights work. It's the pointy housing that is my problem. They were originally installed by CA Cruisers but I now live in NV.

There is a produce made by VHT that is a translucent red paint for the purpose. It might be a bit difficult to locate locally, but check with hot rod and off road shops; they may have it in stock. Josh

Is this system similar to the one on the 69 Eldorado? I have a small compressor mounted on the left wheelwell and what would appear to be some sort of proportioning valve bolted to the underside of the body, over the rear axle.
@johncoyle41252 ай бұрын
The '69 rear leveling is simpler than the '59. The compressor is under the hood and is vacuum operated. In the rear, unlike the '59 with leveling valves on each side of the car, the '69 only has one so it's much simpler. There is also no valve to fully lift the car as there is in the '59. Basically, you car has air shocks that are self-adjusting by the valve you noted under the car. Josh

@72polara3 ай бұрын
Here is one i forgot to mention: If the radiator is low and the oil level is high, you might have a cracked block or bad head gasket. Drain a bit of oil and see if there is water. High oil could be caused by a bad fuel pump leaking gas into the crankcase, too.

Hey, great video. Do you have any information/content on removing the plastic radio bezel lens, and the plastic lens over the comfort control system? Thanks.
@johncoyle41253 ай бұрын
The radio bezel is crimped in place and there are tabs on the climate control. they will likely break if you try prying on them. There is no easy way to remove these parts and if you did, the printing on the back is very fragile and sometimes just wipes away if touched. Josh

Josh, I really enjoy your Videos. It is a pity that you don't make them anymore. I have a hard time understanding this type of cruise control. I have one in my '62 Cadillac. I ask myself if it is possible that the unit malfunctions in a way that I can't disengage it? That it keeps holding the throttle although it isn't desired anymore?
@johncoyle41253 ай бұрын
Nils, I'm still here answering questions,just not making many videos. Yes, the cruise control unit can malfunction in such a way as to not release the throttle. If the problem only involves the unit not disengaging when the brake pedal is pressed, then the trouble is in the switch or its adjustment. If cruise won't disengage by turning the dial to 'off' then the problem is either control cable adjustment or the cutout switch within the unit. The service manual explains the adjustment and testing procedures. Josh
