Some months back I walked round Rutland water to watch the lads fish from the boats. Which was spoiled by the smell of curry which stank everywhere. Won't go back again.

Luck can play a part. However the more you practice. The harder you work with techniques. Reading the conditions on the water. Even a slight change in light conditions. Wind direction/speed temp can change not only the available food sources. The fish could change totally in what and where they are feeding. From the upper few feet to 6, 12, feet even deeper in a few mins. So easy to misread or not pick up the changes, by becoming fixated on what was working earlier. Be alert aware and flexable.

The International in my humble opinion is no longer the pinnacle of loch style competition. The Airflo Invitational boasts the best loch style anglers in the UK if not the world.

Could you use the remaining stem of the cdc as rib on a dry or emerging pattern? Just protect it with an extra counter wrap of nano silk or fine fluorocarbon. The stubs could add movement or the hint of gills as seen on some caddis ect.

Hi Nick, I have to say it was one of my fishing highlights this year. I was in great company with Shaun and Bill and learned so much over a couple of days. The place is stunning and without doubt one of the most scenic rivers I have ever visited. This was the spot www.fishingpassport.co.uk/fishing/upper-wye/craig-llyn
@nickreeves27528 күн бұрын
For sure Lindsay it is proper stunning all around there and recall Craig Llyn now,must get back on there .The beats above and below there are fab too and the fishing around Rhayader town is great fun too also. Hope you maybe went up into the Elan valley too, if not then put it on the to do list! Lots of wild & wooly fishing around there for sure for little money. Hope too you had the company of the many Red Kites on the wing up there checking you out and everyone needs a Bill eh!

Nick Dunn is an absolute diamond! Totally agree with the inevitable ageing problem in fly-fishing and the need for arm/shoulder lightness requirement. I'd really like to see a proper half-wells handle though, especially on a reservoir rod, as it surely helps with power transfer.
