I've been calling people "dear". I'm saving "baby" for it's debut in a few more years. Still a little too young. "Dear" is still a little disarming to Gen Z's demons for a bit. I see the clerks' shoulders relax out of the corner of my eye. It's cute. People are really in need of love and comfort out there. 😥

The mom/daughter relationship is probably fine. However, there is something to be said about someone who might not really know you but uses words of endearment to address you.
